The Position
Roche Diagnostics is seeking a Principal Medical Science Director to join its Global Medical Affairs team. This pivotal role will lead medical affairs strategies within the Infectious & Immunity portfolio, specifically focusing on TB, Hepatitis, HIV, and HPV. The incumbent will be instrumental in driving external research collaborations and partnerships, including those in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The role requires strong leadership experience, in-depth and broad scientific and disease area expertise at the level of internationally recognized Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and clear business understanding to identify and address the relevant medical needs of clinical practice and to drive the medical strategy supporting Roche Diagnostics' commitment as a trusted partner in Infectious Diseases.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Strategic Leadership
-
Creates and implements the long-term Medical Affairs (MA) vision for Roche Diagnostics’ Infectious Diseases team’s engagement with external research partners

Accountable for the development and delivery of the overall strategic medical external research collaboration plans

Contributes to establishing and implementing appropriate policies, standards, and governance for Roche’s medical affairs-driven external research collaborations, networks, and alliances in Infectious Diseases.

Represents MA in cross-functional and cross-departmental key projects requiring strategic direction

Ensures that planning of medical activities is aligned with Global Product Development Medical affairs processes/standards and budget

Ensures that team members:– 1. Stay abreast of internal and external developments, trends, and other dynamics in Infectious Diseases (TB, Hepatitis, HIV and HPV) 2. Maintain the highest levels of scientific and clinical knowledge in Infectious Diseases (TB, Hepatitis, HIV, and HPV).

Ensures good collaboration and communication between other stakeholders and functions, within and outside of Medical Affairs.

May have direct report line manager responsibilities, including but not limited to recruitment, compensation, development and training, performance management, succession management, and talent management
Compliance

Is responsible for acting in line with legal, regulatory, and company standards and codes of practice (such as the Roche Code of Conduct and any other Roche directives and guidelines)

International travel is required
WHO YOU ARE
-
Medical Doctor, registered as General Practitioner, with a PhD in Molecular Medicine (Virology) with intensive clinical practice in Diagnostics

Recognized leader in Infectious Diseases Diagnostics, substantiated by publication records.

An experienced leader with proven results in people management, coaching, and mentoring
-
Experienced track record of making decisions and aligning the organization behind them

Has directed large-scale programs targeting infectious diseases, including e.g. TB, HIV, and neglected tropical diseases, as well as non-communicable conditions such as cardiometabolic syndromes and cervical cancer.

Has developed and implemented global clinical trials leading design, data analysis, and outcome evaluation.

Proven track record of scientific/medical cooperation and network with key opinion leaders, clinicians, and laboratorians to advance innovative health commodities and integrate them into health systems globally.

Diagnostics industry knowledge and understanding/experience with product development and commercialization processes

Professional experience within the field of Diagnostics (Industry or Global non-profit Organization), ideally as CMO at a global level

Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in an additional language, such as Spanish, is advantageous.
