Our Purpose in Quality Control Basel Kaiseraugst (BBK) is to analyze so that patients can trust safe and efficient medication and therapy. Management of microbiological monitoring in Kaiseraugst is a key position in the production of sterile medicines of high quality. The main objective is to combine the safety of the medicines with the requirements for effective production. As the Unit Lead of "Microbiological Environmental Monitoring Kaiseraugst" (mEMT KAU) in Quality Control, you will be responsible for the personnel and technical management of 15-20 individuals in QC, and manage QC microbiology laboratories in the environmental monitoring of all facilities in Kaiseraugst (i.a. drug product facilities for parenterals). You will maintain contacts with the local value streams and global functions, ensuring reliable and efficient microbiological analytics for the safety of our products and the well-being of the patients.

  • With a focus on customer- and value-oriented work, you remove barriers and promote collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Responsibilities include conducting microbiological environmental and media monitoring, microbiological in-process controls, particle testing, calibrations, as well as evaluating and reporting them in electronic laboratory information systems.
  • You ensure timely, efficient, and GMP-compliant analytics by adhering to all relevant guidelines, SOPs, as well as regulatory and registration requirements. Creation and updating of testing procedures, SOPs, and other GMP-relevant documents are considered.
  • For microbiological matters, you provide technical advice and support to internal and external customers (e.g. production, QA, Regulatory).
  • You represent your area of expertise during regulatory inspections and audits.
  • You sponsor new technology (e.g. rapid microbiology) to optimize business processes.
  • You organize your team as a hub for QC, facilities and global Roche teams, and actively implement QC strategies.
  • Optimal utilization of personnel resources and cost-effective use of technical equipment is considered with focus on continuous improvement processes.

Additional responsibilities include ensuring the organization's collaboration with the global Roche network, as well as the implementation of global requirements, including the development of site-specific concepts and solutions in line with the requirements of health authorities.

  • Completed studies with a background in natural sciences or technology (such as biotechnology, microbiology, pharmacy, or a similar field).
  • Several years of experience in leading microbiological laboratories in the specified areas or in sterile production are required.
  • Experience in leading and developing employees, and passion for developing and empowering your team.
  • Proven expertise in the field of microbial environmental monitoring/aseptic processing and in the pharmaceutical GMP analytics work environment.
  • Experience with inspections and audits.
  • Fluency in English and German, both written and spoken, is required.
