Topology in Josephson Junctions
Ref. 2024_014
Project description
The combination of superconductors and semiconductors is attracting considerable interest for fundamental studies of topological phenomena in condensed matter, as well as for quantum computing applications. With the theoretical and experimental developments achieved in recent years, turning superconductor-semiconductor hybrid devices into useful quantum technologies is within reach. We are therefore offering a PhD Student or Intern position aimed at experimentally investigating quantum phenomena in Josephson junctions defined in superconductor-semiconductor materials. The project involves fabrication of quantum devices, electrical characterization at mK temperatures, and data analysis.
Research will be conducted in the team of Dr. Fabrizio Nichele, part of the Department of Science of Quantum Information & Technology, at IBM Research – Zurich. The nanofabrication work will exploit the capabilities of the fully equipped state-of-the-art cleanroom in the Binnig and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center .
Requirements
Applicants must hold or be completing a Master’s Degree in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Electrical engineering, or similar fields. Good knowledge of solid-state physics is required. Familiarity with electrical measurements and programming is welcome.
Diversity
IBM is committed to diversity at the workplace. With us you will find an open, multicultural environment. Excellent flexible working arrangements enable all genders to strike the desired balance between their professional development and their personal lives.
