Postdoctoral Research Position in Molecular Genetics of Sleep Disorders

Introduction

UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and

17,000 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges. As an employer, UNIL

encourages excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.

Presentation

The laboratory of Dr. Anne Vassalli at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of

Lausanne is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to lead an exciting research project

funded by the Swiss Federal Innovation Agency “Innosuisse”.

Job information

Our laboratory is interested in understanding the cause of the sleep disorder narcolepsy. Following

our recent discovery of epigenetic silencing of the hypocretin/orexin gene in narcolepsy patients,

the aim of the project is to provide Proof-of-Concept of the disease reversal by epigenetic drugs.

We seek to leverage diverse in vitro (cell-based) and in vivo (mouse model) approaches to identify

novel compounds (small molecules) that will reactivate the hypocretin/orexin gene and lead to the

development of the first disease-modifying treatment for narcolepsy.

Expected Start date: 01.11.2024

Contract length: 1 year renewable

Activity rate: 100%

Workplace: University of Lausanne - Bugnon/CHUV

Your responsibilities

• Evaluate and statistically analyze data

•Summarize research findings and publish results.

• Work closely with the principal investigator to design and dynamically optimize experimental strategies and directions of the project.

Your qualifications

• Ph.D. in Life Science involving molecular/cellular neuroscience or neurogenetics.

• Experience in molecular biology, cell culture, molecular genetics, in vitro and in vivo

neuropharmacology.

• You are a dynamic, dedicated scientist, critical thinker, with a team player spirit. You are keen

to develop novel multidisciplinary skills to understand the basic mechanisms of neurological

diseases.
