This position is located in In Vivo Sciences, a Chapter within Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS), where the Housing and Care of Laboratory Animals and state-of-the-art conduct of animal experiments in Pharmacology, PK/PD and Toxicology are a primary focus. In Vivo Sciences is responsible for the Animal Care and Use Program in pRED and thus a key business enabler for all in vivo studies.

The Opportunity

We offer a unique opportunity for an animal caretaker in Laboratory Animal Science to provide state-of-the-art housing and care and support studies in rodents and rabbits.

  • You will be responsible for animal care and husbandry, which includes cage changing, feeding, and providing water to the animals. You will conduct routine daily health checks, monitor and follow up on treatments, mark animals, and perform daily observations for pain and distress monitoring, especially for GMOs. You will also conduct health checks upon the arrival of new animals.

  • You will ensure sanitation and hygiene in housing zones and laboratory areas, including cage and material sanitation with efficiency controls. You will handle the ordering and administration of consumables and materials.

  • In study conduct and execution, you will perform routine techniques in rodents and rabbits, including administration, sampling, clinical observations, and euthanasia.

  • You will document and analyze daily checks, sanitation measures, environmental parameters, and scientific data and observations in animals and from in vivo studies.

Who you are

  • You have completed your professional education in Laboratory Animal Care (EFZ, BSc or equivalent training ) and have been able to gain experience in routine techniques and methods in animal research.

  • You are knowledgeable in state-of-the-art housing and caging technologies e.g. in Barrier housing, Individually Ventilated Caging systems (IVCs) and the 3Rs principles.

  • You are familiar with electronic data systems such as husbandry monitoring and routine office software

  • You are resourceful, self-organized and flexible in problem-solving and in working collaboratively and inclusively.

  • You have strong oral and written communication skills in English and German (fluent).
