Your responsibilities
Cells control their cytosolic concentration of inorganic phosphate, which is both an essential nutrient and potentially toxic, because they face a phosphate challenge. On the one hand, growth requires a minimal concentration of this limiting resource because intracellular inorganic phosphate (Pi) is a compound of nucleic acids and phospholipids and modifies most cellular proteins. At the same time, cytosolic Pi may not rise much, because elevated cytosolic Pi can stall metabolism. It reduces the free energy that nucleotide triphosphate hydrolysis can provide to drive energetically unfavorable reactions. Our group elucidates how cells strike this critical balance. We use yeast and mammalian cells to characterize a novel signaling pathway for intracellular phosphate management (INPHORS), which employs several evolutionarily conserved elements: SPX domains, inositol pyrophosphates, which are their ligands, and inorganic polyphosphates. We seek to reinforce our team with a highly motivated collaborator to explore this fundamental signaling and homeostasis pathway and its role in health and disease.
Your qualifications
Candidates with a PhD, experience and a thorough training in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular or cell biology are particularly encouraged to apply. Knowledge of yeast genetics and advanced cellular imaging techniques is advantageous but not essential.
