Job Description
About the role:
At Takeda, we are a forward-looking, world-class R&D organization that unlocks innovation and delivers transformative therapies to patients. By focusing R&D efforts on four therapeutic areas and other targeted investments, we push the boundaries of what is possible in order to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide.
Join Takeda as a Senior Scientist where you will join our multi-disciplinary Early Clinical Development team. You will support clinical-stage portfolios, including biomarker discovery and biomarker-driven early clinical studies targeting immune and inflammatory diseases such as IBD, Celiac Disease, Liver fibrosis, Dermatological, and Rheumatological conditions. You will also apply state-of-the-art bioinformatics approaches and AI/ML strategies to generate and analyze multi-omic data for biomarker discovery, patient stratification, and exploring mechanisms of response or resistance. As part of the Computational and Systems Biology GI² Early Clinical Development team, you will report to the Head of the team and work with the Gastrointestinal and Inflammation Therapeutic Area Unit (GI² TAU) where you will engage with key stakeholders, including clinical development teams, translational medicine biomarker teams, and discovery scientists, to define and execute biomarker data analysis plans. This includes contributing to multiple clinical-stage projects, acting as a senior scientific consultant, or managing a smaller, early-stage matrix project team and leading internal and external collaborations to develop innovative analytical strategies and support decision-making in early-stage clinical trials.
How you will contribute:
- Leverage high-dimensional datasets, including multi-omics data from translational and clinical studies, to discover biomarkers, stratify patients, explore new indications, and support drug combination studies.
- Perform data integration and network/pathway analysis to understand mechanisms of action.
- Apply AI/ML tools and generative AI models for biomarker discovery, integrating findings with existing knowledge to advance translational medicine goals.
- Prepare and present technical and scientific reports for both internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate closely with project teams to influence experimental design, assay development, data generation, and analysis.
- Participate in due diligence for external opportunities as needed.
- Independently design and execute research projects in collaboration with translational scientists, contributing to multiple projects as a senior scientific consultant or managing early-stage matrix project teams.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- PhD in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics with 3+ years post-doctoral experience, or MS with 9+ years experience, or BS with 11+ years experience.
- Strong background in multi-omics biomarker analysis.
- Experience with proteomics, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics or spatial high-content imaging data is preferred.
- Knowledge of drug development and experience in a matrix team environment.
- Experience with AI/ML, statistical analysis, including regression analysis, multivariate data analysis, and mixed-effects modeling is preferred.
- Proficiency in Unix/Linux, command line interfaces, and scripting/programming languages (R, Python) for multi-omics analysis.
- Proficient in developing data strategies and integrating multi-omic and genome-wide datasets.
- Experienced in large-scale omics, high-throughput data analysis, network analysis, meta-analyses and AI/ML models for translational research.
- Capable of implementing computational methods and developing algorithms based on project needs.
