The Institute of Sociology (IfS) at the University of Bern has a vacancy for a doctoral candidate with an employment rate of 75% - 100% starting March 1 or by arrangement. The position is part of an international project investigating the influence of work-related gender norms on the participation of women in the labor market.
The IfS is part of the Department of Social Sciences (consisting of Sociology, Political Science and Media Studies) at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. The IfS is collectively managed and unites a dynamic team of researchers with expertise in, among others, social structure analysis, sociological theory, environmental, organizational and economic sociology, methods of empirical social research, and computational social science.
Tasks
- Research activity for further scientific qualification (doctorate)
- Collaboration in the above-mentioned research project
- Further education as part of the doctoral program
- Teaching support for IfS courses
- Participation in academic activities of the IfS
Requirements
- Interest in answering social scientific questions
- Very good degree in sociology or a related discipline
- Very good knowledge of analytical sociology and empirical social research
- Very good knowledge of statistical data analysis with R, Stata, or similar software
- Experience with handling survey and register data
- Very good knowledge of German and English
