The Division of Small Animal Internal Medicine, Department of Clinical Veterinary Sciences, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland invites applications for the position of Senior clinician in Small Animal Internal Medicine.
We are looking for a dynamic internist to join our internal medicine team. Applicants should hold diplomate status with the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA) or the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or have completed residency training in this specialty. The internal medicine group consists of 5 ACVIM and/or ECVIM-CA diplomates in internal medicine, three internal medicine residents, rotating interns, and a dedicated nursing team. A collaborative atmosphere and flat hierarchies foster a positive and supportive working environment.
We are committed to delivering exceptional multidisciplinary care to our patients, training the next generation of veterinarians, and advancing veterinary medicine. The Small Animal Clinic Bern provides specialist services in internal medicine, nephrology including extracorporeal blood purification techniques, cardiology, surgery, neurology, dermatology, radiology, emergency and intensive care medicine. The clinic runs a 24/7 emergency service and ICU facilities. The clinical pathology laboratory is on site.
Our clinic is well equipped including: Ultrasound, Endoscopy (Olympus), MRI (Voda 3T), CT (Siemens Naeotom Alpha, photon-counting scanner - the first of its kind in veterinary medicine), O-Arm (CBCT 2D fluoroscopy and 3D scans).
Activities and career development
At the Vetsuisse Faculty, two academic tracks are available: the Educator Track (80% clinics) and the Habilitation Track (50% clinics). Both tracks are designed to lead to a tenured academic position within 4-6 years (Dozentur). During off clinics times candidates pursue research, teaching and personal development activities. Participation in the internal medicine on call system is expected.
Knowledge of German and/or French in addition to English is desirable but not mandatory.
Location
The Small Animal Clinic Bern is located in the heart of Bern, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city is in close proximity to both the mountains and beautiful lakes, offering easy access to a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing, skiing, and cycling.
