This role is situated within the preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (pCMC) department, part of the Small Molecule Research organization in pRED Therapeutic Modalities (TMo). We pave the path for drug candidates from early research to development in a diverse and innovative environment. Collaborating actively with our discovery and development partners, we leverage cutting-edge technologies and scientific excellence to transform molecules into future medicines. As CMC experts, we bring a rich diversity of technical expertise in chemistry, formulation design, material science, and analytical chemistry, pioneering advancements in small molecules, peptides, and nucleic acid-based medicines.
The Opportunity
We are offering a unique opportunity for a Principal / Senior Principal Scientist in our Analytical Molecular Characterization group. As a Centre of Excellence for Analytics, we provide innovative methods and services for determining chemical structures, purities, and impurities, supporting portfolio projects throughout the entire value chain.
This role encompasses two primary areas of impact:
Scientific and Technical Expertise: You develop and run high-resolution Mass Spectrometry (MS) methods for the analysis of synthetic oligonucleotides
Leadership: You serve as the Analytical Molecular Characterization Leader, providing matrix leadership and scientific expertise to a diverse team of analytical specialists.

Innovative Analytics: You support the synthesis, development and production with cutting-edge analytics.

Method Development: You develop and implement new methods to characterize innovative oligonucleotides.

Stability and Synthesis Input: You contribute to stability studies and synthesis processes.

Scientific Excellence: You improve scientific excellence by identifying relevant industry trends and maintaining academic partnerships, integrating these insights into the long-term scientific strategy for the group.

GMP Guidance: You support release of GMP starting materials/GMP IPC analytics and method development

Leadership: You provide matrix leadership and scientific expertise to a diverse team of analytical specialists.

Strategic Vision: You define and implement mid- and long-term strategies and visions for the Analytical Molecular Characterization circle with the Leadership Team, translating them into actionable team goals.

Collaboration and Relationship Building: You foster trustful relationships and effective collaboration with internal discovery and technical development teams as well as external partners.
Who You Are

You possess an educational background that includes either a Master's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience or a PhD in analytical chemistry or related fields, coupled with at least 5 years of professional experience in the industry.

You have comprehensive technical expertise in chromatographic and spectroscopic analytics and their various applications.

You demonstrate experience in mass spectrometry (MS) and synthetic oligonucleotide analytics, along with an advanced understanding of oligonucleotide synthesis and GMP/regulatory guidelines. Experience in synthetic peptide analytics is considered a valuable asset.

You have spent at least 3 years leading a technical team. You demonstrate strong leadership skills, with a consistent track record of guiding multidisciplinary teams, effectively navigating ambiguity, and delivering impactful results through collaboration, all while possessing outstanding communication skills.
