The Kohler Research Group of the University Hospital Zurich is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow in Translational and Clinical Breath Research.. The focus is on SESI-HRMS mass spectrometry, clinical trials, and data analysis. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will contribute to different projects within the Exhalomics Network, collaborating with multiple partners to advance the development of personalized breath analysis on a national and international level.

Your tasks
- Design and execute research projects focused on exhaled breath analysis
- Supervise and enhance SESI-HRMS platform processes
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including clinical partners, engineers, and microbiologists
- Publish manuscripts, reports, and deliver presentations to share findings
- Advance your academic career with a structured and self-motivated approach
- Supervision of doctoral students
Qualifications
- PhD in Life Science (e.g. analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical science, pharmacy)
- Strong background in mass spectrometry, especially in complex sample analysis
- Previous experience with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python) and statistical methods for large datasets
- Interest in medical innovations, personalized medicine, and in translation of basic research into the clinical setting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex datasets and draw conclusions
- Strong team player with empathetic and responsible approach to patient care and data management
- Strong communication skills in German (main working language) and English

About the Institution
The Kohler Research Group is part of the Department of Pulmonology at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich (UZH). For over a decade, Prof. Dr. med. Malcolm Kohler has led clinical research focused on lung diseases, particularly Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
With a growing emphasis on modern breath analysis, the research portfolio has expanded to address various clinical questions, such as therapeutic drug monitoring and disease detection. Current projects include a.o. breath analysis for lung cancer, sarcoidosis, and anticonvulsive medication monitoring.
