Is this helpful?
Electricity flows with us. On behalf of Switzerland and in cooperation with international partners, we do our utmost every day to develop the best solutions for the Swiss electricity grid.
We are offering an engineer a 6-12 month internship as an introduction to the energy sector. You will familiarise yourself with the tasks of the Swiss transmission system operator, gain an in-depth insight into current developments in the areas of frequency control and voltage stability and actively participate in projects. For our development team in Aarau or Prilly we are looking for a

Participate in the power supply in Switzerland
As an intern, you will work in the Grid Development & Studies team with exciting topics in the field of dynamic grid studies. Close co-operation with the Strategic Asset Management Team guarantees an exciting and varied working environment. Your tasks will include in particular:
- Analyzing the devices available on the market for damping resonances in the transmission grid. Collecting and analyzing information on the use of new technologies by various stakeholders
- Modelling the devices and systems in EMTP software and carrying out simulations
- Validation of the model with real-time measurements
- Carrying out dynamic network studies to minimize resonances
- Support in the development of decision-making bases for the (further) development of relevant products and mechanisms
The final scope of work will be adjusted according to the project development and the time available.
This is how you make the difference
For this position, we are looking for an upbeat person who is used to working independently. You have an analytical way of thinking, creativity, recognize connections and can formulate proposals for solutions. You will also have the following:
- University or university of applied sciences degree or student in electrical engineering or other related technical sciences
- Knowledge of how the transmission network works, in particular electromagnetic transients, resonances and
- Experience in the field of network calculation/simulation (ideally in EMTP) and knowledge of programming languages (Matlab or Python) are an advantage
- You have a very good knowledge of German, French or English.
What we offer
We offer varied and exciting tasks in a company that is unique in Switzerland and a modern working environment in the immediate vicinity of Aarau and Prilly-Malley railway stations in a young, motivated and international team. You can also expect the following benefits:
- Professional experience in the energy sector and insight into the tasks of a transmission system operator
- Comprehensive insight into current developments in the areas of frequency control and voltage stability in Switzerland and Europe
- Participation in various events to familiarise yourself with the departments and tasks of Swissgrid
- 25 working days holiday and company holidays between Christmas and New Year
- Flexible working hours (42 hours per week)
About us
The Grid Development & Studies team is responsible for grid development studies. We work together with the Swiss distribution grid or power plant operators as well as with foreign TSOs. We are responsible for managing the grid models and the analyses for long-term planning. We review grid connection applications to the transmission grid and carry out the necessary studies to analyse the stability and dynamic behaviour of the system with the planned projects.
The Strategic Grid Planning team is responsible for the strategic renewal and expansion planning of the Swiss transmission grid in a national and European context. We ensure risk- and cost-efficient asset management based on best practice methods and processes.
