Job summary:
As part of Syz Capital strategic business plan, we aim to extend the Legal Asset team and are looking for a VP to strengthen the deal team and further develop this business line. The team is led by a Managing Partner, and composed of a dual-qualified lawyer, rolling interns as well as two senior advisors.
This new position will focus exclusively on the firm’s Legal Assets strategies (Litigation Funding and Law Firm Lending). It will consist of sourcing, underwriting and executing investment opportunities and monitoring the existing portfolio, as well as growing the legal asset business over time, while contributing to further expanding the Syz Capital brand in litigation finance and law firm lending globally. The position will require strong analytical and legal skills, portfolio management and commercial skills, working closely with the firm’s partners and deal team to further develop the franchise.
Syz Capital is actively investing and co-investing across single cases, portfolios, secondary and credit transactions across the legal finance spectrum. The position will require interacting with claimants, law firms, other litigation funders and co-investors on a regular basis. Legal Assets are a key investment vertical within Syz Capital. It is a significant source of growth for the company, and consequently the job will offer the opportunity to contribute to scale this division over the years.
- Analyse and underwrite investment opportunities as part of the deal team, bringing relevant opportunities to the IC. Evaluate the commercial, legal and financial merits of direct investment and co-investment opportunities;
- Monitor existing investments and portfolios and further improve monitoring and reporting tools.
- Assist the firm’s partners and contribute to the commercial development of the legal asset business line within Syz Capital. Support the fundraising initiative, for commingled vehicle or ad-hoc transactions, alongside senior management;
- Contribute to the investment origination efforts across legal assets strategies;
- Produce regular reporting on legal asset strategies to internal stakeholders, investors, and regulators, enhancing transparency and fostering collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Investment experience in a similar role, with a track record in a Litigation Funding / Law Firm Lending environment (additional experience in alternative credit / specialty finance a bonus);
- Master degree in Economics / Law from a reputable university;
- Modelling skills.
Professional experience:
- Investment experience at a Litigation Funder or Special Situations investor with a litigation funding pedigree;
- Relevant working experience in Switzerland or other European jurisdiction;
- Experience in private credit (leverage finance, specialty finance, etc) is desirable;
- Experience advising corporates in high-value litigation, arbitration or credit transactions is an advantage.
Skills:
- Ability to understand complex legal principles and apply them accordingly;
- Demonstrated proficiency in delivering compelling presentations at industry conferences, client events, and media outlets, along with strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Passion for investments related to legal assets;
- Team player attitude;
- Strong attention to detail and relentless focus on accuracy;
- Intellectual curiosity.
Languages:
- Fluent in English;
- Proficiency in an additional European language a plus.
The role is based in Switzerland, Swiss residence is not required but applicants need to be at a minimum eligible to obtain a B residence permit.
