The Institute of Informatics of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis in Switzerland is currently looking for a
We seek a highly motivated PhD candidate willing to contribute to the design of future cellular networks beyond 5G. Using a combination of analytical approaches and artificial intelligence techniques, the student will participate in the development of techniques for supporting new applications and emerging use cases, such as 6DoF, augmented reality, autonomous coordinated driving, immersive gaming, and digital twins.
The successful candidate will be part of a Horizon Europe project on 6G networks and will join an international team spanning 20 countries across Europe, including universities, research institutions, and telcos.
The candidate will join an interactive work environment with a young, motivated team in Sierre, a beautiful town in which to work and live. The HES-SO Valais-Wallis has solid relationships with the IT and TLC industry.
The position is fully funded. The salary for PhD students is very competitive (about CHF 3,500 net per month).
Responsibilities:
- Apply various modelling approaches to cellular communications and design novel algorithms addressing several open issues
- Numerically assess the proposed solutions
- Conduct experimental evaluations
Required background:
- A background in wireless networks and computer networking is desirable, but candidates from other backgrounds are welcome
- Strong analytical skills, resilient, passion for quality research
- Good proficiency in programming (e.g., C/C , Python, MATLAB)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Good verbal and written English skills
