As an HSE Project Manager for BESS, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the implementation of health, safety, and environmental standards across BESS projects in Western Europe and the Nordics. Your main responsibilities- Own and coordinate HSE activities across all project phases, ensuring compliance & alignment with international and local safety standards, including battery technology-specific regulations.
- Develop, implement, and refine Alpiq's HSE protocols for HV-connected utility-scale BESS projects using industry best practices and lessons learned.
- Assess contractor qualifications and review safety documentation, such as HSE, emergency response plans and risk assessments, to ensure alignment with Alpiq's safety requirements
- Conduct regular site visits to audit and ensure HSE compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Establish HSE project reporting systems to monitor safety metrics, its trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead internal training sessions on electrical safety and construction site hazards to foster safety-awareness among team members, contractors and visitors.
- Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Recognized Health & Safety qualification preferably focused on electrical energy systems.
- 5-10 years of HSE experience in HV-connected utility-scale installations (ideally including BESS).
- Familiarity with international electrical system standards (IEC 62933 Series, UL 9540).
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
- Agile, self-motivated personality with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety issues.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Western Europe and the Nordics.
- Proficiency in English; plus knowledge of German and/or French.
