About the role
The Category Manager - Aluminium supports the Global Category Lead Director - Resins and Aluminium in the development and execution of the global aluminium category strategy. This role collaborates with business groups (BGs) and procurement teams globally to ensure alignment with the category strategy and drive value creation across all regions. The Category Manager plays a critical role in supplier management, sustainability initiatives, and cost optimization within the aluminium category.
Key Job Accountabilities
Strategy Implementation and Execution
- Support the Global Category Lead Director in developing and executing the global aluminium category strategy.
- Implement category plans across regions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and procurement strategies.
- Provide input for the development of the Annual Category Plan, including supplier and market analysis, supplier segmentation, and sourcing initiatives.
- Conduct regular market analysis to track the latest developments in global trade barriers, antidumping duties, tariffs, and other regulations impacting aluminium procurement.
- Provide insights and updates to the global procurement team on market trends, geopolitical risks, and regulatory changes that may affect the aluminium category.
Supplier Management
- Manage relationships with key aluminium suppliers to ensure compliance, quality, and performance.
- Collaborate with suppliers to drive innovation, improve supply chain efficiency, and optimize total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Ensure that strategic supplier partnerships align with Amcor’s sustainability goals, focusing on reducing GHG emissions and increasing post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.
- Consolidating regional inputs to create global Supplier Relationship Scorecards measuring suppliers on the key KPIs.
Negotiation and contract management
- Manages negotiation process, content and results in leading the negotiation team to define the desired outcome of a negotiation
- Use Amcor negotiations techniques and tools to prepare and monitor process
- Build strong relationships with key material providers in order to negotiate more interesting contractual agreements and service levels
- Maintain an overview of all contracts related to aluminium procurement to ensure compliance with internal policies and legal requirements.
- Keep a centralized global repository of all signed contracts, ensuring easy access and regular updates for contract renewals and audits.
- Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to ensure that contracts reflect the latest terms, conditions, and obligations for both parties.
Cost Optimization
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities in collaboration with regional procurement teams.
- Leverage economies of scale to negotiate favorable terms and improve procurement efficiency.
- Monitor market trends to anticipate cost fluctuations and adjust sourcing strategies accordingly.
- Leading the execution of global sourcing events (esourcing, RFIs, RFPs etc)
Sustainability Initiatives
- Drive the implementation of sustainability initiatives related to aluminium procurement, including tracking GHG emissions, sourcing materials with lower carbon footprints and increasing recycled content.
- Work with suppliers to develop roadmaps for reducing emissions and meeting sustainability reporting standards.
- Keeping track and informed about latest market certifications and customer requirements (eg. ASI)
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with other business groups, procurement teams, and functional stakeholders to ensure alignment with the overall aluminium category strategy.
- Act as a liaison between the Global Category Lead Director and regional teams to ensure that the strategy is implemented effectively at all levels
- Link with Core R&D and regional R&D teams to follow up on qualification initiatives of new aluminium grades and new suppliers .
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; in fields such as business administration, finance, law or a scientific or technical field. Supply Chain Management, CIPS or related is preferred.
- 5+ years of procurement experience, with at least 3 years in category management (experience in aluminium or metals is a plus).
- Experience working in a global or matrixed organization is preferred.
- Proven track record of managing supplier relationships and delivering value through strategic sourcing.
- Strong understanding of global markets (aluminium/metals preferred) and procurement strategies.
- Excellent negotiation skills, with experience in managing complex supplier relationships.
- Project Management Office (PMO) Skills: Ability to manage procurement-related projects, ensure alignment with strategic objectives, and oversee timelines, milestones, and target priorities effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively across regions and functions to implement global strategies.
- Strong analytical skills, with a focus on identifying cost-saving opportunities and optimizing procurement processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
