Mission
EPFL Transversal skills and career center (CCTC) is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Postdoc Career Advisor. In this role, you will provide tailored support to postdoctoral researchers transitioning to careers beyond academia. You will empower them to leverage their postdoctoral experience effectively and develop key job-search skills through personalized counseling and targeted training sessions.Main duties and responsibilities
- Offer one-on-one career guidance to postdoctoral researchers, assisting them in identifying career goals, strengths, transversal skills, and areas for development.
- Deliver workshops on essential job-search skills, including resume writing, networking, interviewing, and leveraging professional online profiles.
- Guide postdocs in exploring career paths outside academia, understanding industry-specific expectations, and preparing tailored job applications.
- Create and curate resources, such as guides and toolkits, to support postdocs in career planning and job searching.
- Collaborate with Career advisors and the Head of CCTC on the development of the training offer and support activities.
- Gather feedback from postdocs to assess the effectiveness of services and contribute to reporting on program outcomes.
Profile
- A PhD degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, and postdoc experience and/or STEM background is an asset.
- Excellent spoken and written English is essential for this position.
- Minimum 5 years of proven ability to coach and advise individuals on career planning and job search strategies.
- Deep understanding of international academic work environment and needs of early career researchers is essential for this position.
- Experience working in or transitioning to industry, government, or non-academic sectors is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with career resources and tools specific to postdocs is an asset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Valuing diverse perspectives and showing genuine concern for the well-being and development of others.
- Embracing new ideas and approaches to effectively support postdocs in a dynamic career landscape.
