We are looking for an Animal Caretaker for the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) starting on April 1, 2025, or by agreement.
The position is initially limited to 1 year with the option for extension.
The laboratory animal facilities of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) breed and maintain rodents, rabbits, and fish for the biomedical research at the University of Bern, adhering to legal and ethical guidelines and regulations, the 3R (Reduce, Refine, Replace) principle, and the "Culture of Care".
Responsibilities- Professional animal care as well as monitoring and recording animal health
- Breeding genetically modified experimental animals
- Maintaining hygiene status
- Recording animal data in the computer system
- Specific services (e.g., taking skin biopsies for genotyping)
- Cleaning materials, equipment, and rooms according to hygiene regulations
- Assisting in the operational maintenance of equipment as well as in goods receipt and storage
- Animal care duty on a rotational basis on weekends and holidays
Requirements - Completed professional training in animal care or in the agricultural field
- Responsibility towards entrusted animals
- Reliability, quick comprehension, resilience, and precise and speedy working methods
- The agile service-oriented operation requires a communicative working style, flexibility, and enjoyment of teamwork
- Computer skills (MS Word and MS Excel)
- Good knowledge of German, English skills (level A2) are an advantage
