In this new role as Global Sustainability Manager for our Service Business Unit (BU), you will be part of a worldwide HSE and Sustainability community of Hitachi Energy that oversees and develops strategies to ensure safe working conditions as well as environmental protection, contributes to our purpose of advancing a sustainable energy future for all and is part of the BU Service. This role will report to the Global Service BU Head of HSE and Sustainability and will be part of the Service HSE and Sustainability Leadership Team.
The successful candidate will be responsible to lead the Service’s journey towards a more sustainable business and service offering with emphasis on net zero emissions, contribution to climate change mitigation and adaptation, circularity and other environmental targets while ensuring other areas of sustain-ability are properly advanced by the BU according to our Sustainability strategy and through the offering to the Hitachi Energy customer base. The candidate will work towards ensuring that the sustainability efforts align with customer needs and requirements by incorporating their feedback through mapping their sustainability journey and keeping close and active engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
- Service Sustainability Strategy: The primary responsibility involves leading the integration of the group-wide sustainability strategy into the Service BU and Service offering. This includes orchestrating strategic initiatives related to sustainability, energy transition, circularity and decarbonization across the BU.
- Thought Leadership and Expertise: Provides sustainability expertise by assisting the organization in understanding compliance obligations (e.g. CSRD), liabilities, stakeholder and customer expectations (e.g. SBTi). Maintains the relevant sustainability-related competencies through continuous professional development opportunities. Contributes to thought leadership and futureproofing of the business in terms of sustainability.
- Sustainability Reporting: Ensures that the objectives, targets, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are clear and allocated to the relevant business levels. In collaboration with respective functions, reports sustainability performance and progress with respect to the implementation of the group-level sustainability objectives and KPIs.
- Collaboration and Implementation: Drives collaboration with the Sustainability function and other BUs and within the Regions, to ensure the successful implementation of the sustainability strategy. This includes identifying potential business opportunities and partnerships, fomenting knowledge and best-practices sharing, and ensuring priorities and initiatives are implemented. Collaborates with business and other functions to drive behavioral change.
- Sustainability Function: Assists the organization in establishing clear roles and responsibilities for the successful integration of sustainability strategy into the business strategy, with a focus on competence and capacity. Ensures that their own area of responsibility is appropriately organized, staffed, skilled, and directed.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engages with external stakeholders (e.g., customers, suppliers) and internal stakeholders to report on, raise awareness of, gain commitment to, and obtain objective feedback on Hitachi Energy’s sustainability efforts and performance. Gather insights on competitive sustainability offerings and evaluate them against Hitachi Energy’s solutions to deliver superior value to our customers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10+ years of experience with a business, technology or sustainability background, with international exposure
- Formal education or experience in sustainability and/or environment and understanding of portfolio impacts
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge on sustainability frameworks and legislation (e.g. CSRD, EU Taxonomy, SBTi, CDP, EcoVadis, etc.)
- Strong passion for sustainability and the ability to think strategically about environmental challenges are crucial
- Solid climate and emission literacy; ability to assume leading expert role on those topics in BU Service
- Ability to prioritize and make tradeoffs in a strategic, quantitative environment with only moderate support from supervisor
- Ability to transfer frameworks and methodologies into effective targets and content-driven governance processes
- Demonstrated tangible results in program/project management and other settings where influential leadership across strict organizational boundaries is required
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning and execution regarding sustainability initiatives
- Strong ability in comprehends, analyze, and interpret complex data sets to effectively present information
- Flexible mindset, curiosity to push boundaries, learn and adapt
- Initiating, collaborative and problem-solving personality
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with many stakeholders
- Excellent written (text and visuals) and verbal communication skills in English
