The cardiometabolic & respiratory research group aims to improve cardiometabolic and respiratory health and functioning determinants and support development and implementation of cost-effective personalized interventions for reducing disease burden. The project aims to understand the metabolic consequences of spinal cord injury (SCI) and their interactions with neurological recovery and functioning in newly injured individuals with SCI. It relies on proteomics and large real-world data, offering significant potential for groundbreaking discoveries with high translational impact. In collaboration with D-HEST at ETH Zürich, we will investigate the role of medications administered during the acute and subacute phases of injury. Additionally, we will explore the neuroprotective role of female hormones (e.g., progesterone and estradiol) in early recovery after injury.
