Introduction

The University of Lausanne Department of Fundamental Microbiology is the Leading House of the National Centre in Competence Research Microbiomes. Together with the Co-Leading house ETH-Zürich the NCCR Microbiomes is spearheading research in the functioning of microbiomes for human, animal and plant health, the environment and engineering processes.



The NCCR Microbiomes is host to 25 participating research teams from within Switzerland, and will unite with further excellence initiatives abroad. Important ties will be forged with industries and stakeholders involved in microbiome research and applications.

For its management office, the NCCR Microbiomes is looking for a Communication Specialist.


Job information

Starting date : February 1, 2025 or by arrangement
Length of contract : 4 years, with renewal possibilities    
Work percentage : 50-70%
Workplace : University of Lausanne, Switzerland

Your responsibilities

You will be responsible for the Communication strategies of the NCCR Microbiomes. You will be overlooking all NCCR management activities in the area of internal and external communication, and will be taking action for the NCCR domains of science communication and outreach to the public.


 


You will collaborate within the team of NCCR management, with the NCCR Directors and research project leaders, and other NCCR members. You will be responsible for the project’s communication efforts on the website, social media, or by external media and press offices. You will network with other NCCRs, with the Swiss National Science Foundation, and with relevant science communication magazines or platforms. You will also lead efforts on public outreach of the NCCR, such as, exhibitions, open days, or other forms of public participation.


 


This job will require frequent mobility between the two NCCR poles UNIL and ETHZ, and will demand flexible working times during major communication or outreach activities.


 


Your qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with following qualifications, experience and skills :


•    PhD in Biology or related field
•    Experience in scientific communication and outreach
•    Demonstrated outreach activities or products
•    Fluent in English writing and speaking
•    Fluent in French and German writing and speaking
•    Excellent communication skills  
•    Proven conceptual, organisational and collaborative skills and experience in the academic domain
