Introduction
Are you a highly motivated and versatile mechanical engineer dreaming to take up a challenge at the frontiers of science? If that is you, seize this opportunity to join the central project team in the Experimental Physics Department on the Search for Hidden Particles experiment where you will have a key role in the design and realisation of the experimental infrastructure and critical components of the detector, as well as responsibility for control and integration of the SHiP subdetectors developed by the collaborating institutes.
The SHiP experiment is a recently approved experiment aiming at searching for signatures of feebly interacting particles that could for instance be at the origin of neutrino mass, dark matter and associated portal interactions. SHiP will be located on the CERN SPS accelerator at a new beam dump facility. The detector will be a sophisticated instrument composed of magnets and multiple detector components, stretching over 100m in an underground experimental hall. Its operation requires complex infrastructure in terms of large-scale support structures, electrical systems, cooling systems including cryogenics.
Functions
As a member of experiment central project team, you will collaborate closely with physicists, engineers, technicians, and designers, both from CERN and from collaborating institutes. You will have a central role in ensuring the successful design and implementation of the SHiP detector. In your role, you will coordinate the work of CERN personnel, collaborate closely with SHiP detector groups from collaborating institutes and provide guidance on integration of their components.
Specifically, you will:
Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of design, engineering, physics or a related field.
