The Professorship for X-ray Imaging at ETH Zurich and the X-ray Tomography Group at PSI, led by Prof. Marco Stampanoni, develop advanced imaging techniques at the synchrotron and in the lab. They aim to translate these novel approaches into medical devices through multidisciplinary collaboration with academia, industry, and medical partners. Scientist in Micro- and Nanofabrication

Description

  • Develop and execute experimental programs on high aspect ratio gratings in silicon and gold for X-ray imaging using PSI’s facilities
  • Plan long-term, strategic research initiatives in micro- and nanofabrication within the semiconductor sector
  • Lead clean room operations, training and mentoring junior researchers
  • Supervise PhD students and postdocs, ensuring their development
  • Co-manage projects, aligning with organizational goals
  • Secure third-party funding and lead collaborations with academic and industrial partners
  • Author and present technical reports, papers, and presentations

Requirements

  • PhD degree in physics, materials science, engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Substantial experience in semiconductor processes and characterization, especially silicon-based micro and nanofabrication for hard X-ray optics
  • Strong hands-on experience in clean room environments, particularly with thin films, wet-chemistry, and metrology
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with project management experience
  • Competence in training and mentoring young scientists
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus
