Beschreibung

The Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) at the University of Freiburg is one of the largest research institutes dedicated to microsystems engineering. One research and teaching focus lies in optics and photonics. The Laboratory for Microactuators is working on the integration of microactuators into adaptive optical elements and how to apply these elements in optical set-ups.

Your Task:

We aim to explore the integration of bulk and thin film piezoelectric actuators to allow for altered functionality in adaptive optics. Your first task will be the implementation of a fabrication process for AlN and AlScN films on 50 µm thin glass substrates with our new cluster tool. Subsequently, their electromechancial and optial properties shall be evaluated, followed, e.g., by some COMSOL simulations to which extend aberration correction can be expected. To the end, an adaptive mirror or lens is to fabricated combining bulk and said thin film piezos and their functionality is to be explored.

Your qualification:

We are looking for candidates (m/f/d) with an excellent doctoral degree and good publication track record in physics, materials sciences, or engineering, with solid knowledge in at least two of the following qualifications:

  • profound understanding of electrostriction and piezoelectrics
  • thin film deposition technology
  • methods for materials analysis
  • experience with simulation software (ANSYS, COMSOL, ZEMAX) and LabView

Very good English language skills and also basic German knowledge are mandatory.

Limited position for 18 month The salary will be determined in accordance with E13.

We will be particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.
