GARDP is a not-for-profit organization focused on developing and delivering new or improved antibiotic treatments, ensuring sustainable access globally. Aligned with the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance, GARDP collaborates with public and private sectors to partner and lead on the research and development of new antibiotic treatments.
Job Purpose: A Medical Lead role is a key disease area and project medical role within the GARDP R&D team and across the GARDP portfolio. They will deliver the medical scientific strategies and activities for the clinical development and delivery of new and existing antibiotics as treatments for priority drug resistant infections aligned with the Sepsis/SBI disease area strategy. The individual will be the medical lead for R&D drug project(s) led by an overall project lead and will be overall responsible physician for the clinical studies and activities within the project. They will develop initial medical and public health access strategies for the development candidate, with GARDP Global Access team. The role reports into the Associate Director Medical Sciences with a strong link to the Head of the SBI portfolio and alignment with Global Access.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Clinical Development
· Provide medical leadership to the design of development plans and studies to evaluate for antibiotic candidates for treatments for serious drug resistant bacterial infections (eg, WHO priority pathogens and high burden infection syndromes)
· Provide collaborative and/or oversight role for GARDP in study/project level collaborations and the level of joint development partnerships
· Provide study level physician role or oversight for GARDP as sponsor or collaborative study role for partner led medical
Access Development & Medical affairs
· Support the Global Access team to develop initial access strategies within the project and portfolio team model with a focus on evidence required to support optimal and appropriate use.
· Support Global Access and the implementation agenda for the SBI portfolio and disease area strategy
· Lead medical evidence and information strategy to support future sublicensing and country implementation level
Disease area strategy
· Review and refine an SBI programme level disease area strategies with the Associate Director Medical Sciences, SBI Portfolio Lead and Global Access Director to guide both clinical and access development at the project level
· Support GARDP policy, external affairs, communications and public health access solutions for SBI at the disease area level.
Contribution: The Medical Lead role turns the strategic intent into operational reality through the design, development and implementation of program/projects/studies They plan, integrates, and coordinates work to deliver a comprehensive project or a service platform and manage operational aspects of the delivery. They develop new approaches, techniques or policies and establish important guidelines.
Qualifications and Attributes: The ideal candidate should have significant experience as a physician or clinical scientist in drug development (preferably antimicrobials) with a proven track record in leading project level medical activities including studies within a cross functional project teams and/or collaborations. A flexible international approach is required to address the needs of antibiotic development and access in the context of the impact of AMR. The ability to work in partnership with private and public sectors is important. The ideal candidate should be medically qualified or a Pharm.D/Clinical pharmacist, with specialism or extensive clinical and research experience in infectious diseases or clinical microbiology.
