Senior Manager / Associate Director, Early Innovation Partnering will join the Asia Pacific Early Innovation Partnering team reporting to the Regional VP of Early Innovation Partnering. This team is responsible for engaging with the external innovation community across all components of the innovation hubs in Asia Pacific region including academia, venture capital, and the start-up community, and working with internal stakeholders to progress opportunities from identification through diligence and execution of partnerships. As a member of the Early Innovation Partnering team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end partnering process, including proactive sourcing, identification and evaluation of external innovations of potentially high interest aligned to J&J’s therapy area strategies. For opportunities that continue to be of high interest following initial due diligence, you will be a member of the deal team, working in close collaboration with members from the scientific, finance, legal and venture capital teams to support and manage the due diligence process, develop business proposals, identify the optimal partnership structure and then lead the transaction through to deal closure, ensuring close alignment with internal stakeholders across businesses and therapeutic areas.
The candidate will work across a matrix organization serving as a member of the Early Innovation Partnering team at the Asia Pacific Innovation Center, responsible for sourcing activities, search and evaluation of opportunities and executing transactions into partnerships.
Proactively collaborate with the healthcare community in the Japan and the broader Asia Pacific region to develop strong relationships with innovators in the external ecosystem.
Collaborate with internal Johnson & Johnson Innovation colleagues and key J&J business stakeholders and potential external partners to structure, negotiate and execute transactions using a collaborative, win-win approach.

Have strong self-motivation and ability to work independently as well as in a highly collaborative environment.

Have experience and understanding of the pharma and biotechnology industry.
Have a proven ability to understand academic science and disease biology, especially in oncology, immunology and/or neuroscience.
Have a familiarity of deal structuring in pharma/biotech, including the interplay between cost, risk and value.
Understand financial modeling for transactions. Have a sense of how different deal structures and features affect NPV, IRR and deal splits.
Experience in deal negotiations, and a proven ability to negotiate thoughtful deal terms at a fast pace while developing a collegial, collaborative relationship with potential partners.
Be a strong communicator. In collaboration with scientific leads, develop and present business case analysis to key internal constituencies and senior management.
Be comfortable working with and, at times, leading other team members including our scientific leads, legal, finance, marketing, and commercial teams to progress and efficiently complete transactions.
Be comfortable operating in a dynamic, start-up like environment within a large, global healthcare company.
Manage and drive all aspects of deal process to successful completion.
