PostDoc Position in data driven control across scales in local energy systems

Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa's around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living. Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain
In the framework of NCCR Automation, we are looking for a motivated PostDoc to investigate the coordination of local energy systems to serve multiple use cases and develop data driven decentral control algorithms to facilitate their operation. In the past two decades digitalized components became more and more prominent on the demand side of the energy system. As components and technologies can interact to serve several use cases of multiple stakeholders, it becomes more relevant to develop data driven and adaptive frameworks that allow for a flexible utilisation allowing them to serve multiple of these use cases simultaneously across different temporal and spatial scales. We plan to utilize historical and real-time data in the Empa's NEST demonstrator and its multi-energy backbone to serve as development and validation space to show the applicability of the investigated methods.Your goal will be to develop your own research ideas to tackle these challenges, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and external scientific and industry partners. As part of this process, you will supervise master and doctoral students, publish in scientific journals, and participate in conferences. Additionally, you will support the coordination of research activities in the NCCR Automation's Energy systems stream. Your profile
You are a highly motivated and dedicated candidate with a doctorate in Energy, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering (or related field). You have a scientific track record in data driven control or the on-going energy transition. Programming skills in Python support you in contributing to our on-going software development efforts. Your spoken and written English skills help you navigate our international environment.
