The Environmental segment represents a key growth unit within the newly organized Americas Middle Market segment and this Product Line Leader and Manager will play an important role in setting the product line strategy and delivering the right capabilities to capitalize on this growth opportunity. This leader will mentor other product line members and underwriters on evaluating environmental risk and structuring deals that meet our client’s unique needs while ensuring profitable growth for the underwriting unit. This leader will cultivate a culture geared towards a growth mindset and innovation, where through close partnership with our underwriting teams and key broker partners, we deliver a best-in-class product set that enhances AXA XL’s trajectory as an industry leader in the Environmental marketplace. This role will also have the unique opportunity as a leader within the Americas Middle Market Product team to contribute and influence the overall strategic plans as we look to expand our broader product portfolio.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

· Holds a high level of delegated underwriting authority for individual risk decisions. In partnership with the Environmental CUO, drives the strategy for referral triggers and ensure the right checks and balances are in place to enable profitable growth for the line of business. Given deep technical expertise in the space, may be consulted for account referrals on Environmental risks outside of the Americas region

· Drives the overall product strategy for the Environmental UW unit in close partnership with the Environmental leadership team; ensures the competitiveness of our product and stays abreast of market trends and changes that may influence the evolution of our products; sets a regular cadence for regular and timely reviews and updates of our proprietary product set

· Maintains a deep understanding of the Environmental market and consistently scans the market to ensure our product set retains an industry leading position and serves the evolving needs of our customer base

· Partners closely with counterparts across AXA XL to understand our full suite of products, appetite and opportunities to introduce cross-sell options as well as innovative, integrated products that better address our client’s unique exposures

· Provides a great deal of product line depth and understanding to liases effectively with partners in other cross-functional units, including Risk Control, Claims, Legal, Regulatory & Compliance as well as Reinsurance

· Helps develop talent within the Product Line team as well as across the Underwriting unit through thoughtful mentoring and coaching interactions

· Drives the priorities for the Product Line team and works closely with Environmental UW leadership to influence the broader strategy of the Environmental UW unit

· Drives the portfolio management of the Environmental book of business, driving the audit process across the UW book, understanding loss considerations and helping the organization achieve financial and operational goals on an annual basis

· Serves as a key leadership member of the Americas Middle Market Product team and help shape and influence strategic plans across the broader Middle Market product portfolio

· As an industry thought leader for the Environmental space, will represent AXA XL at key industry events and conferences alongside key broker partners, insureds, and potential prospects

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

· Extensive Commercial Underwriting and/or technical experience with the vast majority of that time focused on the Environmental lines of business.

· This role requires some prior people management experience

· BA/BS degree or equivalent; key insurance designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or ARM

· Deep experience working externally within the environmental market with established broker relationships

· Extensive knowledge and expertise of the technical aspects of Environmental and Pollution lines Underwriting with the ability to translate that experience into thorough Technical UW guidelines and training modules

· Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to obtain cooperation and participation of individuals and groups.

· Ability to draft coverage form language and intimate knowledge of the product development cycle

The U.S. pay range for this position is $133,000-$233,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
