The opportunity 

Hitachi Energy, High Voltage Products, is renowned worldwide as a specialist for power transmission and distribution. Our unit Gas-Insulated Switchgears (GIS), based in Zürich-Oerlikon, is active in the development and production of gas insulated switching systems. We ensure the high reliability of our systems by using state-of-the-art development tools and methods.

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Project Lead Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical planning and execution of gas-insulated switchgear projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.

How you will make an impact

  • Project planning and technical detailing of gas-insulated switchgear, including preparation of all necessary documents for order, fabrication, assembly and customers

  • Discussion of technical solutions with customers and internal stakeholders

  • Management of all technical communication channels internally as well as externally

  • Project execution and ordering of required material including necessary configuration

  • Responsibility for project costs, deadlines & scope of delivery

  • Detailed elaboration of quality cases and improvement processes

  • Technical support of the project until completion of on-site assembly

  • Occasional travel to customer meetings or site visits

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience in project engineering, ideally with gas-insulated switchgear or in a similar field

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Creo, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools

  • Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to assist in developing project schedules and tracking progress

  • Familiar with supporting various project phases, including production, transportation, installation, and testing

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and escalate issues

  • Experience in coordinating resources, including materials and equipment

  • Ability to work effectively within an international team environment and collaborate with other departments

  • Fluent in English; proficiency in other languages (e.g. German, Spanish or French) is a plus
