Helio is a Swiss startup based in Zurich and is building the first carbon-aware cloud: By increasing the utilization rates of data centers worldwide (over 80% of the resources are not being used), accelerating the adaption of green energy sources (data centers consume around 5% of the global energy and are responsible for the same amount of Green House Gas as the aviation industry), and extending the lifetime of the hardware, Helio lowers the emissions of the cloud industry significantly.


📒 Job Description


Be part of our engineering team and work closely with the CTO to develop the technology for our multi-cloud infrastructure and market segment-specific customer applications. You’ll work with innovative, cloud-native, and open-source technology.

In this role, you'll play a key part in developing, running, and maintaining cutting-edge cloud services, collaborating closely with our Growth team, and contributing to the ongoing success of our projects.


You’ll be working with the following technology stack:



  • Various Cloud Providers (Azure, AWS, GCP, OpenStack, Bare Metal)

  • Various Cloud Services (CloudSQL, Blob Storage, Cloud Networking, ...)

  • Kubernetes, Cluster API, Argo Workflows

  • GitOps (ArgoCD, Gitlab) and IaC (terraform, packer)

  • Windows and Linux Containers (docker, containerd, packer; PowerShell and bash)

  • Auth (keycloak, Open Policy Agent, OAuth)

  • Monitoring and Logging (Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic)

  • ML/AI Tooling, 3D software, and render engines (Blender, VRay, Redshift, Maya, ...)

  • Our office is situated in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • This job is intended to be hybrid.

  • Proficiency in English is essential for effective communication.

  • Competitive salary range: CHF 100,000 - CHF 130,000 per year.

🤝 You’ll be a great fit for the job if you



  • Possess a strong background in cloud software engineering. Go is a great plus.

  • You have extensive knowledge in kubernetes engineering including writing your own operators, CNI internals etc. Using kubernetes as an operator/administrator is not enough!

  • Experience or ambition to learn Windows Containers is a plus.

  • Showcase experience in several components of our technology stack.

  • Demonstrate technical savvy, self-drive, reliability, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

🚀 Key Responsibilities



  • Develop high-quality cloud services using the Go language.

  • Working on the kubernetes code base for working on cutting-edge use cases, including custom operators, resources and networking and storage applications.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Customer Success, to ensure seamless operations and user satisfaction.

  • Contribute to the development, running, and maintenance of cloud applications across various providers and services.

  • Leverage Kubernetes, Cluster API, Argo Workflows, GitOps, IaC (particularly Terraform), Windows and Linux Containers, Auth mechanisms, and more from our extensive technology stack.

  • Implement robust monitoring and logging solutions, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
