This is what you will do:
Health Economics Leadership
- High quality health economics and payer evidence input into pharmaceutical development projects, payer evidence strategy and plans, and market access & pricing strategies
- Delivery of health economics and payer evidence related activities, and contribute to work streams, to ensure optimal access of our life changing medicines to patients
- Interact with HTA authorities and advisors/key external experts in preparing materials for scientific advice or reimbursement submissions
- Representation of Alexion to a high standard at relevant UK and Ireland HTA meetings (e.g. NICE Committee Meetings)
Early Modelling and Payer Evidence Generation
- Develop early cost-effectiveness analysis based on target product profile, to identify early drivers of cost effectiveness, inform national market access feasibility assessment, test pricing assumptions, and support internal forecasting process & global-led consultations
- Provide guidance for generation of pharmaco-economic and RWE data required to ensure favourable market access for Alexion products
- Research prior appraisals to gain understanding of relevant considerations
- Identify specific pharmaco-economic requirements of national and regional stakeholders in close collaboration with the Market Access Leads
- Collaborate with other cost-effectivness markets to share best practice where appropriate
Local Health Economics Deliverables
- Conduct, supervise, oversee and quality assure the development of early cost-effectiveness models, HTA models, budget impact models, local adaptations, burden of illness etc, in collaboration with fellow technical analysts
- Provide Lead development of high- quality responses to technical assessor questions
- Effective management of 3rd party vendors and consultants involved in developing the HTA submissions
- Application of quantitative skills to support decision-making processes, value demonstration and commercialization of products including through HTA

- Ensure compliance with internal and external standards and regulations
- Deliver projects within allocated budget
You will be responsible for:
Health Economics Leadership
- Provide leadership and project management on health economics modelling projects across a wide range of therapeutic areas
- Leading the design and delivery of industry leading HTA strategies and submissions to UK/Ireland HTA agencies (NICE, SMC, AWMSG and NCPE)
- Provide technical expertise and develop conceptual frameworks that guide the analysis and internal methodological standards in economic modelling project
- Inputting into local access strategy and value/access materials in collaboration with market access colleagues, identifying risks and mitigation plans to enable meaningful outputs
- Partnering with global access team to ensure delivery of health economics projects (e.g. health economic models, budget impact models, detailed reviews, network meta-analyses, costing studies) meet the methodological requirements of UK and Ireland HTA agencies
- Confidently interact with clients on a regular basis, being the main point of contact for assigned projects and able to lead client meetings and written communications that may be highly technical or sensitive in nature
Early Modelling & Payer Evidence Generation
- Creation and development of early cost effectiveness models to identify drivers of cost effectiveness and to test pricing assumptions
- Identification of evidence gaps early to inform UK HTA strategy and supplement evidence base
- Provide insights internally to inform strategic business and market access strategies
- Works with the Market Access team to develop and implement value and access tools including but not limited to advanced budget notifications, budget impact models and value propositions, to be delivered to NHS customers
- Proactively encourage and engage with interdisciplinary team working to scope new projects, research new and innovative methods in health economics and outcomes research and ensure consistency in the use of evidence across the life cycle of a multi-disciplinary project
Local Health Economic Deliverables
- Conduct, supervise, oversee and quality assure the development of cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models, local adaptations, burden of illness etc, in collaboration with fellow technical analysts.
- Representation of Alexion UK/Ireland at relevant external HTA meetings (NICE, AWMSG, NCPE, SMC, NHS England etc)
- Lead and oversee activities related to quality assurance (i.e. design and implementation of quality control procedures to ensure that deliverables are delivered at an excellent standard)
- Lead the development of slide decks, study reports, manuscripts, evidence dossiers, posters and other publications related to health economics and outcomes research, as appropriate
You will need to have:
- Formal post-graduate degree (or equivalent applied work) in health economics, and work experience in the discipline
- 3+ years experience in the NHS or in the Pharmaceutical Industry
- 3+ years extensive experience in a health economics / market access role
- Strong numerical skills with in depth HEOR technical expertise and up-to-date understanding of HTA methodology and processes in the UK & Ireland (NICE, SMC, AWMSG, NCPE)
- Strong understanding of the UK health system, and the UK specific market access and regulatory environment, including the ABPI Code of Practice.
- Proven experience of influencing successfully in a complex organisation
- Ability to analyse complex datasets and present key insights
- Evidence of effective team working and accountability
- Self starter and effective problem solver
We would prefer for you to have:
- First degree in economics, life sciences, mathematics or similar
- Demonstration of publications in health economic journals / conferences (ISPOR)
- Previous or current membership of HTA assessment body
- Experience with statistical and economic modelling software (e.g. R, Treeage, WinBUGS, SAS, Stata)
- Substantial rare disease therapy area experience
- Local or global launch experience, having worked at a senior level within a health economic consultancy or several years in a pharmaceutical company
- Understanding of advanced statistical methods and concepts for evidence synthesis, e.g. indirect treatment comparison and network meta-analysis methods.
