Research Assistant as Computer Scientist in Human Factors Team 80 – 100 %

Starting date: 1st of August 2024 or by mutual agreement
Limited to 1 year, the position can be extended for up to three years

  • As part of our research team, you will develop and implement algorithms that enable AI-based systems to understand and predict human intentions.
  • You will work in a Horizon Europe project in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to design and refine AI-based support systems for air traffic control.
  • You will closely collaborate with our industry and project partners to implement your algorithms in the operational environment.
  • You will have a chance to work on projects in diverse application fields with various industry partners.
  • You will conduct research and optimise the human-machine interface and interaction, ensuring that systems are intuitive and augment human capabilities.
  • You will participate in the testing and validation of developed applications in the field and in experiments to ensure reliability and efficiency in real-world scenarios.
  • You will document development processes and results and contribute to scientific presentations, papers and reports.
  • You will have the opportunity to co-supervise student projects.
  • Your daily work will typically allow for a high level of flexibility and freedom.
  • You have a master's degree in computer science, engineering, data analysis or a related field.
  • Alternatively, you have a bachelor's degree in one of the above with practical experience in applied data science projects.
  • Strong programming skills and experience with machine learning and AI technologies (preferably in python).
  • You have experience with applying data analytical and machine learning methods.
  • You can work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
  • You have high oral and written communication skills in English and preferably also in German.
  • You are a team player with the ability to work independently.
  • You are interested in human-machine interaction preferably in aviation.
  • You are interested in human factors and biometrical data.

Data-driven understanding of human performance is used to enhance true human-automation teaming. The position is limited to three years but may be extended.
