This works well in the company
MeteoNews offers an interesting, broad and diverse range of activities in which you can use and expand your skills. What I personally appreciate: - Flexibility of working hours - Possibility of home office - Team spirit, collegial working atmosphere with a family touch - The constructive dialog between colleagues and the management. - The opportunity to contribute my own ideas and suggestions for improvement. - diverse and exciting activities - flat hierarchies
This could be improved
- More "manpower" for the long-term projects. Customer satisfaction is a top priority at MeteoNews. Therefore, customer requests are given priority. For project planning, however, this means that the long-term projects are pushed further back.

My resume to be employed here after 1.5 months: People with an affinity for technology and a flair for system administration (Linux, OpenBSD, Mac, Windows) and programming (from shell scripts to websites) can let off steam here. It is a complex, fascinating and lively environment with its own television and radio studio. There is always something to do - maintaining systems of various kinds, clarifying and meeting the needs of the various stakeholders both internally and externally, as well as operating the entire technical infrastructure around the clock. The organisation of the complex systems and infrastructure is well thought out and offers a wide range of opportunities to get involved. The people here are diverse, friendly and cultivate an extremely pleasant culture of communication. Anyone can contribute ideas and find a hearing. Decisions are made as far as possible in the team. The hierarchies are flat and the communication channels correspondingly short. In addition, there is a deep insight into the fascinating world of meteorology and weather.

There's always something to improve. This is in the nature of things, especially an infrastructure of this complexity and enterprise of this size. Problems and suggestions for improvement are discussed and solved in a pragmatic, professional and needs-based manner. It's a living environment that never stands still.

The range of activities in IT is very diverse. In general, tasks that arise in the team are distributed in a way that best corresponds to the wishes and experiences. This often allows insights into new topics. I particularly benefit from the flexible organisation of working hours. Within certain limits, I can determine the beginning and end of the working day myself. There is good personal contact and a MeteoNews feeling of togetherness with the employees of all departments.

Many orders are placed at short notice, so that longer-term tasks have to be postponed again and again.

MeteoNews offers - especially in the IT department - a very wide range of tasks, from hardware to SysAdmin to web development. So one can (and must) familiarize oneself with new areas again and again, but then also returns to familiar tasks again and again. Of course it is something special to be involved in the operation of a television studio! Personally, I particularly appreciate the flexibility of working hours: within certain limits, I can determine the beginning and end of my working day myself, as well as days off. Wishes for different part-time stints or sabbaticals are usually very generously accommodated. Equally positive is of course the personal communication and the cohesion of the employees - across all departments and including managers.

In the dynamic media environment, many orders come at very short notice, which means that project planning is repeatedly thrown overboard.

A somewhat strange undertaking - but they don't really get there with LINUX either.

We work with Linux, at least about 60 servers run with ubuntu or openBSD. But of course we also expect a system administrator to have knowledge of network configuration and script programming - and we are happy if someone can do some web programming as well. In job interviews, this whole range of desirable experiences must necessarily be discussed, which we may sometimes discuss a little bit about Linux itself.

Yes, we do: Interviews with us can take an hour and a half because we like to take the time to get to know an interested party well. In the past year I can actually remember a conversation in which there was nothing to drink (because the applicant denied our question of whether he wanted something). Otherwise it is already in my own interest as a discussion participant to have a few glasses of water ready.

Rather bring diverging statements as to whether one is interested or not. A clear line is missing.
