Das Data Science Lab der Universität Bern unterstützt Forschung in NLP, KI, und Data Science. Hier hast du die Möglichkeit, innovative Projekte in einem dynamischen Umfeld zu gestalten.
Aufgaben
- Beratung für Forschende und Forschungsteams zu NLP-Anfragen.
- Entwicklung und Wartung von Webanwendungen für Datenanalysen.
- Fortbildung und Lehre im Bereich Data Science und NLP.
Fähigkeiten
- Abschluss an Universität oder Fachhochschule, PhD von Vorteil.
- Erfahrung mit NLP, ML und AI, Kenntnisse in Pytorch und Hugging Face.
- Gute Englischkenntnisse, Deutschkenntnisse sind von Vorteil.

The Data Science Lab (DSL), www.dsl.unibe.ch, is a core facility at the University of Bern. The main DSL objective is the university-wide research support in Natural Language Processing (NLP), AI, Data Science and Research IT related matters.
Tasks (% are indicative only and relative to the employment %)
• Consulting for researchers and research groups (20%).
Fictive example: A researcher from the Faculty of Theology: “I would like to do an automatic semantic comparison of the gospels, including the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas. Can you help me?”. You: “Sure, can I come to your office tomorrow?”
• Project work (60%). Concrete example: Design, develop and maintain a web application for text and speech commanded retrieval and data analysis of results from large research projects, starting with a climate project.
• Own continuing education (10%)
• Teaching (5%)
• Team internal stuff (5%)
Requirements
• University or University of Applied Sciences degree, PhD is an asset
• Experience and domain knowledge in NLP, ML and AI
• Familiar with NLP/ ML frameworks and libraries such as Pytorch, Hugging Face, Spacy, Langchain.
• Good understanding of state-of-the-art NLP models including transformer based Large Language Models.
• [Nice to have] Experience with designing workflows integrating Rest APIs with Web Frameworks.
• Experience and or interest in research and publication work
• Goal and service-oriented personality with good English communication skills, German ones are an asset
