Role Overview:
The Solutions Design Manager plays a key role in the design and development of innovative warehousing and logistics solutions tailored to the specific needs of clients. This role is critical for bridging the gap between client requirements and operational feasibility, ensuring solutions align with budgetary, performance, and timeline expectations. The Solutions Design Manager also contributes to project based continuous improvement within operations as a secondary priority based upon demand and capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
Solutions Development:
Work closely with Business Development teams to understand client needs and develop customized, scalable, and efficient logistics solutions.
Analyze and evaluate client data and specifications to design operational and technical solutions that enhance supply chain performance.
Prepare detailed designs using industry standard cost models and operational blueprints for warehousing and distribution.
Develop solutions and pricing models for both dedicated contract logistics operations and shared site or multi client operations.
Technical Analysis and Optimization:
Conduct detailed analysis of warehouse layouts, workflows, equipment specifications, labor planning/productivity and resource utilization to optimize efficiency and costs.
Utilize advanced tools such as AutoCAD, simulation software, and optimization models to create detailed designs and identify key improvement areas.
Solutions should parse client data into quantifiable activity flows, process maps, labor productivities, MHE requirements, storage infrastructure concepts, automation concepts, IT requirements, pricing and implementation strategy.
Project Management Support:
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of design plans, from initial concept to implementation and ultimately steady state operation.
Provide ongoing support to Project Management teams during the implementation phase, ensuring the smooth transition from design to operations.
Financial Feasibility:
Conduct cost-benefit analyses and risk assessments to ensure that proposed solutions meet financial performance objectives.
Document detailed assumptions and variables that affect implementation, steady state operations and commercial dynamics.
Support the preparation of comprehensive proposals, including financial and technical justifications, for presentation to clients.
Client Interaction and Presentation:
Participate in client meetings to lead solution presentation and explain concepts in a detailed, clear and compelling manner.
Gather feedback and adjust designs as necessary to ensure alignment with client expectations and business objectives.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay up to date on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to continually refine and improve design methodologies.
Contribute to the development and documentation of standard design guidelines and protocols.
Key Competencies & Skills Required:
Technical Expertise: Proficiency with industry standard Contract Logistics Cost Models is essential. AutoCAD, simulation software is beneficial. Expertise in MOST and/or MTM methodologies.
Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities to design efficient, cost-effective logistics solutions.
Project Management: Understanding of project management principles, with the ability to work within tight deadlines and budgets.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with clients and internal teams.
Client Focus: Ability to understand and anticipate client needs, translating them into innovative design solutions.
Attention to Detail: Rigorous approach to identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential design risks and issues.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
2-5 years of experience in a solutions design role within contract logistics, warehousing, or a related industry.
Experience in designing and optimizing large-scale warehousing and logistics projects is highly desirable.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid work environment with flexibility to travel as needed.
May require occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines or attend client meetings.
Reasonably expected salary range: $134,500.00 - $179,300.00 + commissions.
