The Opportunity
Collaborate with business users to transform the organization into a data-driven one. Responsibilities include translating requirements into analytics solutions, operationalizing decision support solutions, and evaluating data to provide actionable insights. Additionally, provide technical leadership to a team of data scientists.
OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

Lead data analysis and delivery: Provide technical expertise in analyzing, defining, designing, and delivering large, structured or unstructured datasets across the organization.

Utilize broad data knowledge: Apply extensive knowledge in healthcare, biotech, and technical disciplines to explore and harness data assets.

Prototype and maintain datasets: Create and maintain datasets and data architectures.

Identify and harness data assets: Explore and identify valuable data assets within the organization.

Design data architectures: Develop robust data architectures to support organizational needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Manage and lead a team of data engineers to accomplish technical analysis, design, development, maintenance, and configuration of complex data.

Lead the analysis, definition, and design of data architectures, using specialized knowledge of advanced data stores and analysis technologies to define datasets and support research.

Create future state roadmaps for complex data architectures, explorations, analyses, and modeling, recommending methodologies and technologies based on industry trends and strategic plans.

Guide decisions with projects and IT groups using persuasion and negotiation skills, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Oversee the impact of medical and biological data requests to support research, leading data investigations and applying SDLC and ITIL to solutions.

Ensure data documentation aligns with Takeda QMS, SDLC, and ITPLC standards, maintaining high-quality and compliant data practices.

Tackle the toughest problems in the group, demonstrating advanced tooling and techniques, and staying updated on modern data technologies and new platforms.

Represent the team in cross-domain and commercial projects, maintaining and expanding relationships with vendors and stakeholders.

Provide expertise to data engineers, peers, and specialists to support research, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.

Engage with business stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and alignment of data initiatives with business goals.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent.
-
7+ years of relevant experience.
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong business acumen, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
-
Ability to work in an agile and rapidly changing environment, delivering high-quality results.
-
Proficiency with data processing languages such as Python, T-SQL and Java.
-
Deep understanding of AWS services (S3, EC2, Redshift, EMR, Athena), ETL processes, and experience with Databricks and Rapid UI tools (e.g., Tableau).
-
Experience with frameworks such as Spring, Django, R Shiny, TensorFlow, MXNet, and data formats like Parquet, ORC, or AVRO.

Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and multiple NoSQL datastores (Cassandra, MongoDB, Neo4J).
-
Experience using a “Data Lake” environment and Spark (Scala or PySpark), with an architectural understanding of horizontally scalable solutions.

Professional/business level proficiency in both English and Japanese, with a global mindset and willingness to work in a multi-national environment.

Working Hours: Headquarters (Osaka/ Tokyo) 9:00-17:30, Production Sites (Osaka/ Yamaguchi) 8:00-16:45, (Narita) 8:30-17:15, Research Site (Kanagawa) 9:00-17:45
