The Vice President, Finance – Product & Editorial (P&E) leads the financial function of P&E within Thomson Reuters. This role brings strategic and financial insights to operational decision making. As a forward-thinking leader, the focus of this role is on internal and external financial, and non-financial elements of the business and making strategically sound financial decisions to drive intrinsic value and generate increased shareholder returns. A deep understanding of all aspects of the groups within this function and ability to effectively partner with the Chief Product Officer and the leadership team is key to build synergies, leverage scale, reduce complexity and cost and drive product innovation. With the P&E leadership, this role co-owns the financial, operational and investment decisions for the function and leads processes, organization, and technology to provide strategic decision support.
This role is also responsible for informing the Enterprise Prioritization Committee (EPC) and will play an integral role in our capital prioritization process and ensuring our investment dollars are aligned to our strategic direction. If in Zug, this role will be a voting member of the Committee.
The preferred location for the role is Toronto, Canada or Zug, Switzerland.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Vice President, Finance - P&E you will be responsible for:
All Cost, Capital & Headcount / Resource strategic, business, and operational planning and forecasting for the P&E function, partnering closely with the Chief Product Officer and leadership team providing insights, challenges and influencing the P&E organization to define and achieve our strategic priorities and to ensure they maximize business performance. This also includes the identification of opportunities and risks against the forecasts/plans and developing mitigation pathways to meet the business objectives and financial targets of P&E.
Planning, forecasting and performance commentary analysis and reporting for the P&E function, working closely with the Chief Product Officer and leadership team as well as the DSIG Finance function.
Provide strategic, business, and operational leadership and supporting analysis to ensure that we use our resources and capital to our best advantage to drive revenue and profit and ensure we are aligned with our strategic priorities. You will work on the development, implementation and reporting of appropriate KPIs such as capitalization rates, efficiency actions and product profitability analysis (with the wider Finance team and business stakeholders as required).
Analyze and interpret financial information pertaining to business performance and make recommendations concerning strategy, business policy, resource allocation, and business operations to improve our financial performance. You will alert key executives to trends in the financial performance of various business lines that may require management action.
Help to steer the overall strategy and culture of Finance and P&E as a member of the relevant leadership teams across Finance, P&E and Thomson Reuters.
All decision support and commercial finance activities in P&E including contribution to the production of and ownership of business cases, resource utilization and capitalization analysis, capital planning, third party spend planning (including Outsourced contractor resources), resource effectiveness and productivity analysis, efficiency planning, program support, migrations & obsolescence and other ad-hoc projects as required.
Planning, forecasting opex and capital requirements in business cases, including their capitalization treatment. You will help the organization make capital and resource allocation decisions through financial analysis (e.g., classic financial analyses such as ROI and DCF/NPV).
Work in conjunction with the rest of the Finance team, including Accounting and other teams within DSIG to ensure accurate and appropriate accounting treatment of all financial activities related to the business. You will ensure compliance with Thomson Reuters policies and procedures e.g., SOX and Audit.
Develop and maintain your indirect Finance team, establishing standards for performance and giving appropriate direction to the broader Finance organization. You will develop your indirect team to ensure growth in the capabilities of the Finance function and to support succession plans across the Finance department.
Lead and contribute to agreed finance transformation initiatives and projects across P&E and the broader Finance teams, including continued adoption of automation tools and machine learning / predictive forecasting models, new financial systems, and tools such as OneStream and PowerBI, ongoing review and improvement of key processes including simplification and standardization where appropriate.
About You
You are a fit for the role of Vice President, Finance – P&E if your background includes:
Minimum 10 years fiscal responsibility for a global company, business unit or function
Recognized accountancy qualification or equivalent with extensive experience in finance roles, financial management expertise and deep knowledge of accounting principles
Integrated knowledge of Thomson Reuters; customer focused, proactive and has good understanding of Thomson Reuters strategy and business model
