The EHS Design and Compliance Engineer ensures that Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements are implemented at all stages of an investment project, in line with Lonza's policies, procedures, and legal regulations. This role focuses on evaluating safety impacts throughout the project lifecycle- from feasibility studies to detailed design - while ensuring Lonza's EHS procedures are applied, particularly within the GE Growth project and Visp CAPEX initiatives.
As a member of the EHS team, the role actively fosters a strong EHS culture within CAPEX and investment projects. The EHS Design and Compliance Engineer reports operationally to the EHS Design Manager.
Key Accountabilities:

Lead the implementation of EHS standards and practices throughout the project lifecycle

Collaborate with design teams to ensure safety, environmental, and sustainability aspects are embedded into project designs

Participate to risk assessments, including HAZOP, ATEX, containment, and fire safety evaluations during the different project phase (from feasibility to detail design)

Ensure compliance with local, national, and international EHS regulations and standards (e.g., SUVA, OSHA, ATEX)

Maintain documentation to support regulatory audits and compliance checks

Develop and manage EHS deliverables, including initial assessments, CAR reviews, and operational safety plans

Monitor project progress against defined EHS milestones, providing updates to stakeholders
Key Responsibilities:

Masters in Pharmaceutical Technology, Chemistry, Process Engineering, Safety Engineer or equivalent

Working closely with a team of EHS project managers and EHS SMEs and
Specialists – acting as coordinator and single point of contact (SPOC) -
Responsible for supporting to meet the overall EHS Safety budget

Proven process understanding of design safety and legal safety demands in the pharmaceutical environment or similar

Very strong communication skills in German and English, both verbal and written

Strong presentation skills for developing and delivering training to elevate knowledge, skills and behaviors at multiple levels of the organization

Dealing with high level of ambiguity using coaching skills
