The project "Dizziness Assessment and Rapid Evaluation", led by Prof. Dr Georgios Mantokoudis (University Hospital of Bern) invites applications for PhD positions.
The position is limited to 48 months (project duration).
This PhD position is part of an innovative research project aimed at improving stroke detection in patients with dizziness using Video-Oculography (VOG)-assisted diagnostics. The goal is to apply and validate a triage tool that allows non-experts, such as emergency department (ED) physicians, to increase diagnostic accuracy for vestibular disorders and strokes. This study is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
The position is for four years, with an intended start date of 01.06.2025, or as agree.
PhD position - Responsabilities
- Conduct a 4-year, single-center cross-sectional study in a Swiss ED
- Assist in the recruitment and collection of multi-modal data from patients presenting with dizziness
- Apply and validate an AI-supported VOG-assisted diagnostic algorithm
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in emergency medicine, neurology, and biomedical engineering
- Develop automated data evaluation for eye-tracking measurements
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
Requirements
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience in experimental design and data analysis.
- Proficiency in Python for scientific computing and data analysis.
- Knowledge of statistical methods and AI-based evaluation techniques.
- Ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary clinical and engineering research environment.
- German Language >A2
- Knowledge of machine learing tools / AI, computer science is a plus
