Le RISIS compte plus de 30 chercheurs-euse dans les principaux domaines de la statistique et des sciences de l’information. Le/la candidate intégrera l’équipe du professeur Grey afin de réaliser des recherches en lien avec l’Open Science, le financement participatif et la science citoyenne en application avec les défis sociétaux comme les objectifs de développement durable mis en place par les Nations Unies.
Le/la candidat-e devra réaliser des recherches dans le cadre du projet R&D Sustainable Spirit of Geneva en collaboration avec diverses organisations internationales et organisations non-gouvernementales basées à Genève. La recherche portera plus précisément sur le rôle de IA à faciliter le travail et à accroitre l’impact social et environnemental de ces organisations.
Le/la candidat-e retenu-e devra s’inscrire à un des programmes de doctorat de la GSEM ou a un programme de doctorat de l’UNIGE dans un domaine connexe et rédiger une thèse de doctorat sous la co-direction du professeur Grey et d’un autre membre de la GSEM. Une participation à des workshop et des hackathons en lien avec divers projets pour des partenaires externes basés à Genève sera demandée.
Par ailleurs, en tant qu’assistant-e doctorant-e, il/elle devra apporter un soutien aux activités d’enseignement du professeur et encadrer des cours de niveau bachelor et master. Ces tâches impliquent, entre autres, l’animation de travaux dirigés, la préparation des questions et la correction des examens ainsi que la supervision de mémoires de master.
Il-elle sera engagé-e pour un mandat d’un an renouvelable. Le poste d’assistant-e doctorant-e a une durée maximale de 5 ans. Les 3 premiers mois constituent une période d’essai pendant laquelle les deux parties peuvent résilier l’accord de travail avec un préavis d’un mois.

The Research Institute for Statistics and Information Science includes more than 30 researchers in the core areas of statistics and information science. The selected candidate will join Professor Grey’s team which conducts research in the area of Open Science, Crowdsourcing and AI, applied to societal challenges such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The specific focus of the candidate’s research will concern the project designing experiential learning activities that tackle the SDGs using Crowdsourcing and AI, in collaboration with International Organisations and Non-Government Organisations. The research will focus more specifically on integrating Crowdsourcing and AI in the SDG Olympiad, in the context of the EU project ALBATROSS.
The successful candidate is expected to enrol in one of GSEM’s PhD programs or a related UNIGE PhD program and write a doctoral thesis under the co-supervision of Professor Grey and another member of the UNIGE academic staff. Support of joint activities with partners from International Geneva, such as workshops and hackathons, will also be required.
In addition, the selected candidate will be the Teaching Assistant for various courses, both at Bachelor and Master levels. The tasks involve, for instance, running tutorials, preparing exercises for continuous evaluation, grading final reports, and co-supervising Master theses and internships.
The chosen candidate will be hired on a 1-year renewable contract. The assistant position has a maximum duration span of 5 years. The first 3 months constitute a trial period during which both parties can terminate the working agreement with a 1-month notice period.
Job qualifications & requirements
Master’s degree in data science, innovation management or in a closely related field.

Titre et compétences exigés
- Maîtrise en sciences de l’information, gestion de l’information ou dans un domaine connexe ;
- Solides compétences analytiques, d’excellentes compétences de communication, une grande curiosité intellectuelle, autodiscipline et esprit d’initiative pour mener à bien une thèse de doctorat ;
- De l’expérience professionnelle au sein d’une organisation internationale ou d’une organisation non-gouvernementale basée à Genève ;
- Des connaissances dans la mise en Å uvre de programmes d’innovation expérimentaux impliquant l’utilisation de l’IA et le financement participatif ;
- Excellente maîtrise de l’anglais (oral et écrit) ainsi que la connaissance obligatoire d’une des langues nationales suisses, à savoir le français, l’allemand ou l’italien.

Master’s degree in data science, innovation management or in a closely related field.
- Outstanding analytical abilities, strong communication skills, exceptional intellectual curiosity, self-discipline and the proactiveness to complete a doctoral thesis.
- Some prior working experience with International Organisations or NGOs.
- Some experience with implementing experiential innovation programs involving the use of Crowdsourcing and AI technologies.
- Excellent English language skills (both oral and written) as well as compulsory knowledge of one of the Swiss national languages (French, German or Italian).
