Postdoctoral fellow in ex situ mineral carbonation
90%-100%
The postdoc will join a project investigating the capacity for ex situ mineral carbonation in Switzerland and its potential to contribute towards achieving climate goals. The project involves laboratory experiments to determine carbonation rates and CO2 storage capacity of rocks in (or nearby) Switzerland, combined with fieldwork to characterize promising materials for ex situ carbonation. Techniques to be employed include, but are not limited to, X-ray diffraction, laser-ablation ICP-MS, electron microprobe and microscopy, fluid composition analyses, metal isotope analyses, and geochemical modelling.
TasksConducting experiments and analyzing fluids and solids. Contributing to writing of reports and peer-reviewed publications. Participation in project meetings. Communicating project findings to various audiences (reports, presentations, conferences). Working collaboratively in the research team.
Requirements
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in a related field (e.g., Earth Sciences, Chemistry) at the time of appointment. Experience conducting geochemical experiments is an asset, as are strong analytical and laboratory skills. Good written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
We offer
The Institute of Geological Sciences is an international and interdisciplinary environment hosting state-of-the art laboratory and analytical facilities. We aim to foster a supportive, dynamic, diverse, and inclusive team, and individuals from historically underrepresented groups in the Natural Sciences fields are encouraged to apply.
