Your role and responsibilities
ABB Electrification Ventures is the venture capital arm of ABB Electrification. We invest in 3-6 transformative technology companies globally per year that advance ABB’s vision of a sustainable, electrified, and automated world. Part of the ABB Ventures investment framework, the team has supported ABB Electrification since 2021, with investments in 16 startups that drive innovation in this core business area. Overall, ABB Ventures has invested $500 million in 70 startups across electrification and automation sectors since 2010. For more information, visit www.abb.com/ventures.As an Investment Manager/Principal, your main focus will be the execution of venture investments on behalf of ABB Electrification. You play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and managing investments in startups that align with ABB’s strategic priorities. You will contribute to building the next generation of electrification solutions while fostering strong collaboration within ABB and with external partners.Location: This is a global position with preferred location - Zurich, Switzerland; Copenhagen, Denmark; New York and Boston USA; London England.Your responsibilities: Investment evaluation and execution• Negotiate and execute venture investments in technology companies aligned with ABB Electrification’s strategic priorities• Evaluate investment proposals and collaborate with relevant businesses to explore interest and strategic fit. • Lead and supervise full due diligence of potential investments with special focus on financial valuations and business plan evaluations for technology companies• Oversee and coordinate legal documentation and final closing of various rounds of Investments (including debt, equity, etc.). • Strategic collaboration and communication. Align investment themes and priorities to group and division strategy• Coordinate and secure a frequent dialogue with the businesses. Portfolio management• Participate on boards of portfolio companies and guide their growth – including facilitating efficient collaboration with relevant divisions.• Ensure the appropriate handling of the valuation of investments over time and quarterly reporting of portfolio companies.• Secure and manage documentation of the portfolio companies External networking • Source deal flow via different channels, e.g. attending events and through VC network
Qualifications for the role
- Relevant work experience required with direct investments, i.e., corporate venturing, financial venture/growth capital and Tech M&A. Knowledge of Electrification industry and related technology portfolio of the divisions is a plus.
- Bachelor’s/Master´s degree in Business/Finance, Engineering or Commercial Law from a leading institution with top results; MBA from top business schools is a plus.
- Network in the venture capital eco system.
- Strong expertise in financial modelling, valuations and business plan analysis – including experience in analyzing growth business plans of start-ups.
- Must have sound knowledge of commercial terms, legal peculiarities, complex Business plans, and managing deals/projects.
- Demonstrated leadership and team skills in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
- Creative, energetic, self-motivated, flexible team player with an ability to work independently and solid analytical and problem
