IATA is committed to achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In our Sustainability and Economics division we take a holistic approach to this challenge and seek to combine subject matter expertise with a cross-functional approach to leverage on all knowledge within the team.
Net zero for aviation requires a no-stones-unturned approach and IATA must research all options and opportunities to help bring to fruition the suite of solutions from now to 2050 and beyond. The ramp-up of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is the key driver for our industry to be able to decarbonize but we need to ensure maturity of all other solutions related to reduced fuel burn, new energy solutions such as hydrogen or electric, carbon capture or related technologies and programs. This requires substantial work across the value chain and bringing together stakeholders and industry experts to progress research, trials, validation, and operating specifications.
Reporting to the Director Net Zero Transition, you will be part of a multifaceted team covering all these priorities. You will lead a group of five experts in the areas of net zero roadmaps, new technologies, life cycle emissions, carbon capture, and non-CO2 impacts.
We are individually and collectively responsible
for the team’s success and expect a supportive and collaborative management
style with an emphasis on upskilling across the team.
Lead the research and be the overall technical expert for all current and emerging options for achieving net zero carbon aviation.
Manage the research and ensure the continued evolutions and relevance of the IATA Net Zero Roadmaps with the aim to establish these as the reference point for aviation stakeholders, particularly in terms of understanding the necessity and timing of actions.
Drive additional research and publications in support of deepening our understanding of the challenges and identifying solutions for aviation’s net zero transition. Promote broad dissemination of the research, present at internal and external events, and participate in working groups, including ICAO.
Produce research that supports the acceleration of net zero technologies, their standardization, and commercialization.
Contribute to the design and delivery of the bi-annual IATA Aviation Energy Forum, World Sustainability Forum and other events, media platforms to raise visibility and action for net zero transition.
Contribute to the team in a cross-functional manner regarding our ongoing research, development and tracking of relevant data, research and findings across the globe.
Coordinate with other IATA departments on cross-cutting issues such as airport operations and air traffic management, to support the identification of fuel efficiency opportunities, and the implementation of present and future net zero solutions.
Provide subject matter support, project collaboration, and regional capacity building
At
least 7 years of relevant experience and an advanced university degree in a
discipline (such as engineering, physics, environmental technologies, etc.)
that will support your contribution to and leadership of the team. Key assets
