ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Senior Manager Maintenance plays a crucial role in ensuring 24/7 technical support and consistent technical operation and safety standards across the Viking River Cruises fleet in the respective region.
This role requires extensive technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex maintenance operations. The role is based in Vienna, Austria and involves intensive traveling across Europe.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance operations
• Define and oversee the implementation of maintenance standards for the fleet of river cruise ships.
• Ensure adherence to SOPs and guidelines outlined in Technical Manuals for ship maintenance.
• Conduct regular ship visits to assess the condition and ensure compliance with the standards.
• Continuously Identify areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
Leadership & stakeholder management
• Lead Maintenance Managers within the area of operation.
• Ensure quality of communication and collaboration between shoreside and on-board teams.
• Monitor the effectiveness of maintenance procedures and make necessary adjustments.
• Provide technical guidance to Maintenance Managers, shipboard staff, and crew members.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and recommend innovative solutions.
• Oversees technical quality and maintenance operations within their designated service area.
• Reports directly to the Senior Manager Service Hub.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Functional skills
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in marine or technical operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong understanding of maintenance best practices, including predictive and preventive maintenance.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to implement quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Education and professional experience
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in technical operations within the maritime industry.
• Experience with modern maintenance management software and systems.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field is an asset.
• Professional certifications in maritime safety and maintenance management are an asset.
Leadership Skills
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop team members.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively.
• High level of organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong focus on continuous improvement and innovation in maintenance practices.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities and environments.
Other requirements
• Language skills: English (oral and written) on a business level. German is an asset.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the operational areas, including potential international travel and regular 24/7 Hotline Duty.
• Proficient in using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and maintenance management software.
