The Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWÖ-HSG) was founded in 1992. The Chair of Management of Renewable Energies at IWÖ-HSG was created in 2009 with seed funding from Good Energies and COFRA foundation. Since its inception, the Chair has been involved in several national and international research programmes, and has initiated innovative educational initiatives including the CEMS Model UNFCCC and the Master's Certificate in Managing Climate Solutions (MaCS-HSG), as well as the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Renewable Energy Management (CAS REM-HSG).

Your tasks
The Chair of Management of Renewable Energies at the Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWÖ-HSG, Prof. Rolf Wüstenhagen) at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) is looking for three new doctoral students. This is a unique opportunity for early-stage researchers who are passionate about renewable energy and managing climate solutions. The positions will allow successful applicants to become part of newly funded research projects with Swiss and European partners from industry and academia.
The Chair of Management of Renewable Energies at HSG has established a strong track-record for combining scientific insight with real-world impact. We apply a mix of qualitative and quantitative empirical research methods to understand the decision-making of energy consumers, investors and other stakeholders, thereby contributing to the design of successful business models and policy instruments for the diffusion of low-carbon innovation.
We are looking for candidates interested in one or several of the following topics:
- Citizen co-investment and social acceptance of renewable energy
- Convergence of electric mobility, renewable energy and storage
- Decentralisation of energy and climate governance
- Emotional influences on energy-related decision-making
Your profile
Successful candidates...
- are close to completion of or hold a Master's degree from a recognized university
- have a background in business administration, industrial engineering, marketing, finance, environmental psychology, international affairs, managing climate solutions, or related fields
- are passionate about understanding the role of renewable energy in shaping a low-carbon future
- are curious about combining insight and impact
- are highly motivated, and combine a track record of excellent performance with team-player qualities
- have a solid basis in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- are fluent in English and have strong writing skills. Proficiency in one of Switzerland's national languages is a plus.
