The Head of Project Management Development Programs, Drug Substance, is responsible for leading a group of internationally acting project managers across the business unit Drug Substance (currently including Swiss sites, Manchester (UK) and Shanghai (China)). The role involves leading and supporting a group of associated employees in their project management function, ensuring the optimal deployment of the group members with a focus on the efficient provision of services for our customers. The department Project Management Development Programs (PMDevP) is part of the Project Management Office at the CGAM Business Unit (BU) Drug Substance. The objective of project management within CARBOGEN AMCIS is to guarantee the successful delivery of customer and service projects within the agreed quality, timeline and budgetary constraints.

Your responsabilities:

  • Actively assess CGAM program portfolio and advise gate keeping committee and operations
  • Provide regular commercial forecast updates and ensure reflection in international capacity planning
  • Provide regular updates on program profitability
  • Support the Sales function in fostering an intimate and trustful customer relationship by understanding the customer needs and managing mutual expectations.
  • Provide support and assistance in costing, pricing or selling of project offers and extensions
  • Provide support on defining project strategies for ongoing and new development programs
  • Actively support group members in solving project management issues
  • Actively align and coordinate cross-site internal and external projects and processes (including international alignment if required).
  • Actively support his/her team members in their role as project managers
  • Actively support his/her team members in commercial management
  • Actively support his/her team members in scope management
  • Actively support his/her team members in risk management and risk communication
  • Actively support his/her team members in increasing and securing target margins towards commercial manufacturing
  • Actively support his/her team members in tech transfer between BU sites, from and to customers
  • Initiate training (e.g. project management topics)
  • Ensure a motivating and performance-enhancing environment for employees.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of Project Management best practices in close collaboration with the involved stakeholders (e.g. BPMO)
  • Plan (group) resources
  • Ensure compliant ERP-Project set-up of projects within PM groups

Your profile:

  • The jobholder has a minimum of degree level education in a science or engineering subject (e.g. MS or diploma).
  • An excellent level of spoken and written English is required due to the nature of the customer base and the wider organization of the CARBOGEN AMCIS group. Good German knowledge is beneficial.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of project management required.
  • Broad understanding of the financial operation including revenue booking, P&L accounting, working capital, and other relevant topics. A degree in business administration (MBA) is beneficial but not essential.
  • Good understanding of process chemistry, analytical chemistry and engineering.
  • Project Management education (e.g. CAS module, bachelor, MS, PM certification) or at least 5 year on the job in project management function in the pharmaceutical industry is essential.
  • Multi-year leadership experience is considered beneficial, but not essential.
  • Ability to motivate his/her staff and interact with them in an appropriate and exemplary manner.
  • Ability to listen, provide feedback, offer constructive praise as well as criticism.
  • Proactive communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence across and out with the organization at all levels of management.
  • Ability to be persuasive, credible and effective in dealings with external suppliers and customers.
  • Conceptual and strategic thinking and a level of creativity are necessary to find ways of solving problems and delivering difficult projects.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and make best use of specialist resources across all functions.
  • Ability to manage self and co-ordinate and prioritize many activities simultaneously in support of different projects.
  • Good attention to detail is required, combined with the use of project management tools and software.
