JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Alliance Management oversees the execution of the entire EPD deal portfolio. This role involves managing strategic relationships with major pharmaceutical multinationals, who are key global partners for EPD, and leading a team of Regional Alliance Managers to drive revenue and profitable growth for Abbott EPD.

DIRECT ALLIANCE MANAGEMENT OF GLOBAL DEALS: Execution of Deal Portfolio with Global Strategic Partners:

  • Own direct relationship with 5-10 Global Strategic Partners, typically large pharmaceutical multinationals, with whom EPD has signed global deals.
  • Develop execution plans across all functions, including Legal, Regulatory, Clinical, Commercial.
  • Oversee contractual obligations and execution plans for global deals in collaboration with division functions.
  • Manage deal Performance by overseeing sales and margins, ensuring commitments are met with Abbott Corporate and Divisional leadership.
  • Escalate issues to senior leadership after identifying, assessing, and proposing solutions.  
  • Handle accounting and finance management of accounts, including investment milestones and key financial commitments in collaboration with the Finance team.
  • Anticipate and manage changes in project stages or collaboration participants.

REGIONAL ALLIANCE MANAGEMENT: Supervise and monitor performance of regional Deals:

  • Lead a dotted line global team of alliance managers across all EPD regions.
  • Develop and execute implementation plans.
  • Monitor the financial performance of each deal on a quarterly basis and report to senior division leadership on deal performance vs. commitments.
  • Identify root causes of deviations and develop solution paths.
  • Track progress against contractual obligations.
  • Escalate issues to regional leadership (EPD officers) as needed.
  • Explore and execute incremental growth opportunities and partnership expansion.
  • Implement KPIs and tools to monitor partnership performance.

DUE-DILIGENCE IN NEW GLOBAL DEALS AND SUPPORT NEGOTIATION / CONTRACTING:

  • Collaborate with multi-functional team to address identified Due Diligence issues and implement resolution / CAPA actions.
  • Support team during negotiations and contracting, working closely with the broader Transactions team (including L&A, Legal, Finance and Regulatory).
  • Develop a post-signing plan.
  • Identify the Alliance Management team responsible for execution.
  • Manage the budget and financial aspects of the process.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMMENT SUPPORT:

  • Plan, analyse, negotiate, and execute new strategic partnerships.
  • Manage forecasts, valuations, and due diligence for potential opportunities.
  • Finalize new business deals and ensure contract requirements are integrated.

ALLIANCE MANAGEMENT PROCESS, GUIDELINES AND GOVERNANCE:

  • Design Alliance Management guidelines and processes, ensuring alignment with Division Senior Leadership.
  • Define and implement of governance protocols.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance alignment and trust among collaboration participants.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences and/or business; graduate degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical consulting or pharmaceutical industry, including experience in Alliance Management and/or Business Development.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to build new P&L proposals.
  • Culturally adaptable with proven success in EM markets.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel (~10%).
