ROLE DESCRIPTION
• Viking Cruises is currently seeking an Energy Manager to join our Ocean Operations team for our Ocean and Expedition fleet. The Manager will be responsible for managing all day-to-day activities related to fulfilling the ships fuel and energy needs. This position reports directly to the Executive Director – Port Operations & Government Relations.
• The key focus of the role will be on ensuring that all ship’s fuel and energy needs are met on time and within policy and budget guidelines. The Manager’s role will be fourfold:
One; to monitor the operations and ensure that processes are executed by the ships as defined, including supporting in case of deviations and escalating to Ocean Operations when needed.
Two; support the ships in fuel and energy purchase orders; coordinate with suppliers, internal logistics & sourcing teams to arrange timely delivery to the ships.
Three; ensure that all structural data for fuel planning and reporting in MXP are correct and that all processes are well established and defined with clear communication lines and escalation channels.
Four; track fuel and energy efficiency for operated cruises vs planned and expected fuel and energy consumption.
• In addition, the Manager will be in charge of periodic reporting related to day-to-day fuel and energy acquisition.
• The position is based in Basel, Switzerland.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Be the single point of contact for allotted ships for all fuel and energy needs.
• Work closely with the shipboard team and suppliers to ensure that all relevant products needed for the operation of the ships are on board at all times.
• Monitor price discrepancies between contract and invoice prices.
• Track and manage discrepancies and credit notes.
• Work closely with internal (procurement department) and external parties (suppliers) to ensure planning and deliveries are made in a timely manner.
• Manage and maintain the standard fuel and energy item list for Ocean (incl. structure, spec, descriptions, VAT, etc.).
• Ensure fuel and energy calculation parameters are maintained and up to date in MXP.
• Create ships’ fuel plans for the in MXP according to fleet’s deployment.
• Monitor and control fuel and energy POs to ensure standard process is followed by the ships.
• Ensure monthly consumption reports are created and shared with wider organization as needed.
• Further develop processes and reports as related to the day-to-day operations of fuel and energy procurement.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• Several years of working experience in coordinating bunker and fuel procurement for marine use, preferably in the cruise industry.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• A can-do mindset, with a strong focus on delivery a superior guest experience as well as a focus on costs and budgets.
• Flexibility and stress resistance, team player, commitment, positive personality, professional appearance.
• Ability to travel both domestically and overseas.
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
• Previous experience working in the cruise industry.
• Past experience with working in MXP.
• General knowledge of global environmental regulations for fuel usage and emissions from ships to air.
