Johnson and Johnson is recruiting for a Principal Scientist, Translational Sciences (TS), Immunology Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) to be located in Spring House, PA or Cambridge, MA.
At Johnson & Johnson, what matters most is helping people live full and healthy lives. We focus on treating, curing and preventing some of the most devastating and complex diseases of our time. And we pursue the most promising science, wherever it might be found.
As Immunology Leaders, we know immunology is vital to human health. Driven by a steadfast focus on patient unmet needs, we will redefine treatments for immune diseases by delivering groundbreaking therapies and regimens to patients with immune-mediated disease. For more than two decades we have been a world leader in the development of transformational medicines, establishing one of the strongest, first-in-class portfolios and pipelines in the industry, including the first tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor, and first interleukin (IL)-12 and IL-23 inhibitors. We push the boundaries of science and creativity, applying our deep disease insights, novel pathway science, new technologies, and treatment modalities to restore immune homeostasis.
Johnson & Johnson discovers and develops innovative medical solutions to address important unmet medical needs in the following therapeutic areas: immunology, oncology, neuroscience, infectious diseases & vaccines, cardiovascular & metabolism, and pulmonary hypertension. Our mission drives us. Our patients inspire us. We collaborate with the world for the health of everyone in it. We are guided by our Credo. Thriving on a diverse company culture, celebrating the uniqueness of our employees and committed to inclusion. Proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) is an integrated group of scientists composed of a Translational Medicine (TM) team which conducts early clinical development and experimental medicine studies, and a Translational Sciences (TS) team which uses human based data and tissues to support the end to end portfolio. Together, the TSM group will provide the key findings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. Organizationally, TSM serves as a pivotal link between Discovery Research and the later phase Clinical Development group. TSM provides the vital scientific and clinical expertise to advance an industry-leading pipeline of novel mechanism small molecules and biologic agents to address unmet need in immune-mediated diseases.
TS has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision- making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. It has expertise in biomarker development, disease biology research and in the application of immunology and data science technologies.
This position requires a highly motivated candidate to drive the translational research of innovative therapies across immune-mediated diseases. The Principal Scientist will serve as a TS Program Lead for Immunology preclinical or clinical programs with a focus on rheumatology with responsibility for the development and implementation of high caliber biomarker plans and driving the group’s strategic direction. Activities include partnering with Discovery and clinical teams to mine preclinical, clinical, and molecular data to identify therapeutic targets for key indications, assess scientific rationales for targets and pathways of interests, develop and validate patient stratification hypothesis and biomarker-based endpoints. The candidate will drive data delivery and analyses in support of key program achievements, contribute to the strategic direction of TS, mentor team members, and partner with cross-functional teams to engage in interactions with external experts to advance Immunology portfolio.
Responsibilities are as follows:
- Coordinate the design and execution of translational science and biomarker plans integrating both disease and pathway approaches to support portfolio programs
- Drive operational efficiency for translational biomarker implementation, including engagement with external vendors and academic partners
- Contribute to the strategies on molecular understanding of human diseases, patient stratification and biomarker-based endpoint translational strategies
- Lead team members in the communication of study results and applying those results to making strategic decisions
- Represent TS on program teams working closely with key leaders in partner functions to ensure project goals are met
- Engage in the overall department’s strategic direction with special focus on growing the impact of TS approaches in drug discovery and development
- Lead internal and external collaborations to increase team capabilities or address a strategic need
- Take initiative to identify, pilot and internalize emerging technical approaches that may drive increased value for portfolio execution
- Help build an extensive external network of leaders in Immunology to enable strategic partnerships and awareness of advances in translational and biomarker research
- Prepare and/or advise the preparation and review of protocols, clinical study reports and translational science sections of Translational plans, IBs, INDs, abstracts, manuscripts, and technical reports
